OXFORD — Ole Miss football recruit Jerrell Powe was granted a temporary restraining order today by a Lafayette County Chancery Court, possibly clearing the way for the star defensive tackle to enroll in school and play football this season.

Ole Miss announced last week that Powe, a former Wayne County High School star who played last season for Hargrave Military Academy in Viriginia, was ruled ineligible to receive scholarship aid or play football at Ole Miss this season. That ruling came from the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse, an Iowa-based firm that certifies the eligiblity of all NCAA freshmen athletes.

this may lead the way for a LOT of lawsuits trying to get kids on the field.

Wow! Talk about gutsy - if Ole Miss is wrong, they'll be in deep poopoo

But the NCAA is the work of the debbil, so this will be fun to watch.

what... they'll ban ole miss from bowl games? heck, it's not like they've been bowling (or even close) the past two years anyway.

seriously, this will be fun to watch. i don't like ole miss's chances winning against the ncaa.

More proof that Ed Oregeron is out of his mind. Ole Miss isn't going to win, and they are going to need to get lots of marginal kids through the clearinghouse in the future to compete. Messing with the NCAA is going to help them.

It's nice to see someone questioning them and their very biased authority.

So how can we help without getting ourselves in trouble?

That's the beauty of the NCAA - you touch them, and they squish you.

They will be in deep poopoo if they win. (See College Football Association, by and through The University of Oklahoma and the University of Georgia, Plaintiffs vs. NCAA, Defendant.) CFA won, but both named Plaintiffs ended up on probation in short order.

Nah, just the ambiguous walk-on program ;)

What's so ambigous about it?

ambiguous was the wrong word,.....shady is probably better.

Dr. Tom was quite.....liberal with walk-ons.

oh, and I'd rate Floyd Little and Larry Czonka above Rathman.

I'm talking about Nebraska fullbacks. And explain what you mean by liberal with walk-ons.

I mean to a degree using the walk-on program as a pass for some partial qualifier types whom happened to be Nebraska natives.

and why do you hate Cory Schleisenger? :D

Which players were those? And it's Rathman>then the Mackovica brothers>then Cory Schleisenger

that's blasphemy.

Cory's gonna have to retire in a year or two at the most btw.

Yeah, but Cory wasn't on the poster that hung above my bed either. And a fullback can only last so long and Cory's played on the 94 title team. 12 years is a pretty good career for a fullback.

all with one team, not many players can say that anymore...thought he was done last year with the neck injury.

I did too, but college's don't produce fullbacks like they used to either. Pretty soon a good fullback will be like a punter and play forever because there aren't enough quality replacements.

This is sad.....
“Jerrell really is a good child but he just can’t read. Please give him this chance to attend Ole Miss.”

In that case he should be allowed to play if he legally changes his name to Dexter Manley Jr.

Holy Cow, people...

You DO realize that NCAA rule changes are voted on by the presidents of the member universities, right? They don't just make **** up to make life difficult for people.

And frankly, if a kid can't satisfy the minimal requirements of the NCAA to gain eligibility at a school and doesn't have some sort of legitimate learning disability, then they don't deserve to be in college.

Let me have them all before you post again, please.

I've worked hard for this.

his mom should likely be kept away from the media!

anywho... it's being argued that Powe has dislexia. i'm doubting we'll ever see him take the field.

oh, one more thing...
