- "Lucky Man" - Emerson Lake and Palmer

- "In The Court of the Crimson King" - King Crimson

- "Truckin'" - The Grateful Dead

...and surprisingly..."Goin' Down" by The Jeff Beck Group. But that was a personal incident.

"In the Garden of Eden" by Iron Butterfly. Has to be a good stoner song because the singer was so f'ed up they re-named it In-A-Gadda-Davida.

"Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd

Doesn't get much trippier than that.

"Down To Seeds and Stems" - Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen

"I Got Stoned and I Missed It" - Dr. Hook

A personal reminiscence about Brewer & Shipley's song... I was working for a small radio station in Pauls Valley when the song came out. It was getting played, mainly because the owners of the station hadn't really listened to it, and one sweet older lady called in... wanted to thank us for playing that nice new religious song, "One Toe Over The Line, Sweet Jesus". :)

Actually, EVERY song by Steely Dan counts, especially Hey Nineteen.

Obligatory, Rick James - Mary Jane reference.

"Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get it all outta here

Is there gas in the car?
Yes there's gas in the car

I think the people down the hall know who you are."

Oh man, fricking great song. "Did you feel like Jesus? Did you realize you were a champion in their eyes?" Writing a song about Owsley Stanley is a very, very fertile ground. :)

"Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva, gonna sell my house in town..."

On a related note, "King of the World" is my personal favorite SD tune

I didn't know that! Another day, another tidbit of dark SD humor confirmed.

Thanks.

It brings into focus the line "Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motorhome" :D:

first two traffic records are WAY underrated as great classic rock LP's.

Traffic: who knows what to tomorrow will bring, and 40 thousand headmen.

"A Day in the Life" - Beatles. Riding that big ol' crescendo when you're toasted will make you say "heh" or somethin.

Dazed and Confused -- Led Zepelin!
Dude, I still remember the first time I heard that song. I was higher than a clam and my buddy brought over LZ1. We had been listening to a lot of 2 & 4, but nobody had 1. I put on those big, gnarly, extremely loud 70's headphones (even though this happened in the early 90's), and that song completely blew my mind. I mean, blew, my, mind.

Actually I vaguely remember a night in about 1976 where there was some hash oil and the Beatles' "I Want You / She's so Heavy" playing in a house near OCU. That song seemed to last 4 dreamy hours.

Oh dude... towards the latter part of that song when the wind starts howling, it blew our minds one night. Matter of fact, the entire Abbey Road album was amazing. We were on stuff quite a bit more intense than mj, but it was still awesome...

This thread is making me think of the bad stuff I used to do. Naughty thread...

one of the best rock riffs ever, to open the Master of Reality LP, too. the crappy sound quality of the recording only enhanced it's sludgy greatness. Rock!

I think some people are confusing great stoner songs with songs about getting stoned.

Back-in-the-day, music + getting stoned was my bag. I spent many, many hours laying in the grass with a pair of 3-foot Pioneer speakers on either side of my head (beats the **** outta headphones). Some of my faves:

Rush - Rush (I still say their first album was their best)
Allman Bros. - Live at the Fillmore
Frank Zappa & Mothers of Invention - Live at the Fillmore
Pink Floyd - Umma Gumma/Meddle/Dark Side
Zeppelin - I, IV
Wishbone Ash - Argus
Uriah Heep - Demons & Wizards
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Ten Years After - A Space in Time, Cricklewood Green
Grand Funk Railroad - Live, Closer to Home
Deep Purple - In Rock, Machine Head
Black Oak Arkansas - High on the Hog, Raunch & Roll
Montrose - Montrose
Johnny Winter & Edgar Winter
