Kerry alleges misconduct in 2004 Ohio vote
POSTED: 8:21 a.m. EDT, August 29, 2006
Adjust font size:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. John Kerry didn't contest the results at the time, but now that he's considering another run for the White House, he's alleging election improprieties by the Ohio Republican who oversaw the deciding vote in 2004.

An e-mail from Kerry will be sent to 100,000 Democratic donors Tuesday asking them to support U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland for governor of Ohio. The bulk of the e-mail criticizes Strickland's opponent, GOP Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, for his dual role in 2004 as President Bush's honorary Ohio campaign co-chairman and the state's top election official.

"He used the power of his state office to try to intimidate Ohioans and suppress the Democratic vote," Kerry says in the e-mail, according to a copy provided in advance.

Kerry, D-Massachusetts, conceded the election when he lost Ohio and its 20 electoral votes. A recount requested by minor-party candidates showed Bush won by about 118,000 votes out of 5.5 million cast. But Kerry's e-mail says Blackwell "used his office to abuse our democracy and threaten basic voting rights."

Multiple lawsuits by outside groups were unsuccessful in challenging Ohio's 2004 election. One case filed by the League of Women Voters is still in U.S. District Court in Toledo. It claims Ohio's election system discriminates against minority voters.

Blackwell, who is black, says the election was run fairly, citing 1 million more votes cast than in 2000 and record turnout among black voters.

"People will say anything for money," Blackwell campaign spokesman Carlo LoParo said. "Fortunately, the historical record contradicts Senator Kerry."

Strickland spokesman Keith Dailey said the campaign welcomes Kerry's support.

This sounds like something Kerry could get sued over. That's quite an accusation.

What does Kerry have to say about alleged voter fraud in Wisconsi....

Oh wait, he won that state. Nevermind that some Democratic operatives were sentenced to jail for slashing the tires of a fan some Republican Volunteers were going to use to drive people to the polls in Milwaukee. Or that Kerry's margin of victory in that state was significantly smaller than Bush's margin of victory in Ohio.

This is a great quote from your link...

It reminds us that the one good thing that can be said about George W. Bush is that the American people have never actually elected him president of the United States.
Good stuff.

Unfortunatly, its never been proven to be more than robert kennedy's fantasy (of which he seems have a lot of). And its always been a very laughable fantasy if anyone ever reads it.

the sad fact is, only dims have actually been found guilty of this from 2004.

I'm not certain about this, but iirc, a politician can legally say almost anything about another politician without any fear of getting sued.

Even if not, discovery goes both ways, and a lawsuit over such a statement would be an invitation for Kerry's team to go digging through Blackwell's (and other party operative's) records to try and prove impropriety. Given the state of the Republican party in Ohio right now, that's the last thing any of them want.

Cuban and Venezuelan intelligence conclude 9-11 was an "inside job"

(WMR) -- Add Cuba and Venezuela to the list of countries that knew of and informed the Bush administration about a "major terrorist attack" prior to 911.

In addition to Russia, Jordan, France, Germany, and other nations, Venezuelan and Cuban intelligence picked up chatter about a "major terrorist attack" on the United States prior to 911.

Cuban intelligence, which has an extensive network in Florida -- a home base of the hijackers and their handlers -- initially picked up reports about the attack and passed the information to both the United States and Venezuela. However, the Bush administration failed to react to this and other foreign warnings.

Venezuelan intelligence, likely from its own sources in Florida and elsewhere, confirmed that something major would occur in the United States.

The failure of the Bush administration to heed these warnings coupled with subsequent intelligence picked up by the Cuban and Venezuelan security services have led them to conclude that 9-11 was carried out as a result of an "inside job" within the Bush administration.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has announced plans to hold an international 9-11 commission of inquiry in Caracas that will bring together a host of international government, security, and political leaders.

Already, preliminary meetings in Caracas for the conference have attracted the attention of the FBI. Recently, an FBI agent asked for the guest list of a hotel on Margarita island to check on names of guests, including Americans, associated with the preliminary planning meetings for the conference.http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_812.shtml

More commie propaganda goodness...

Venezuela’s revolution of hope
By Joshua Frank, Kim Peterson and Sunil K. Sharma

Like so many other Venezuelans we met, Nancy said the people were happier under Chavez government because significant changes were being made to their daily lives. She extolled the country's president. Chortled de Ramona, "Chavez has four balls. He has the balls of [turn-of-the-eighteenth-century revolutionary leader] Simón Bolívar's horse and his own balls."

When asked what she thought of George Bush's nut sack, she indicated clearly by the downward crushing motion of a clenched fist into the flat palm of the other hand.

It's wasting time like this and stupid candidates like Kerry who guarantee that even the lamest Repub candidates (like Bush) can get re-elected.

They'd have a better chance if they nominated an actual donkey.

Is this what you mean by well-balanced and supportive of the troops?

At home we deride every American soldier as a potential war criminal, we label them committers of massacres, we call them dumb and when we're really being nice, we say they're just dupes, field hands for the rich frat boys who got high on punch and drove us into this mess.

That's why it's important to read a variety of sources and be able to formulate an informed opinion, and not dismiss anything out of hand, especially without having actually read it.
