Look what was in my garden this morning?

She was in a web that was probably 2.5 feet across. She had just caught a bumble bee and was wrapping the thing up in her web. I thought it was pretty cool.

The Boy, on the other hand, is SCARED TO DEATH of spiders. He'd look at it if I was right there, but he wouldn't get any closer than about 4 feet from it. He knows that spiders are good (although I wish this one wasn't eating a bumble bee), but he is still scared to death of them.

any other spider than that kind is dead the second I see it.

I don't kill any of them outside, unless it's a fiddleback or something. We have a ton of wolf spiders in our yard. Inside is a different story though.

One of these was on my arm a couple of days ago while I was out working on the boat.

Yeah, that's the rule for me. If it's outside, let it be. Spiders don't generally creep me out, but when I am mountain biking and get a web in the face, I do stop and take inventory.

I killed one of these a month ago, it crawled up on the patio while I was mowing. It was about 4 inches long. FREAKED ME OUT.

so I took the weed eater to it. :D

I never kill spiders, even in the house (unless it's a fiddleback or black widow). They kill things I don't like, so I lets em live.

Count me in with the non-spider killers.

And as a kid, I loved those garden spiders. There were always a bunch around our house, or up at one of our grandparents' farms.

My brother and I would catch grasshoppers and throw 'em in their web. Generally, they'ed wrap about 9 or 10 up before they got bored.

The other cool thing to do was to gently poke them with a stick. They would get scared, run up to one corner of the web, and then wiggle back and forth, making the whole web sway. I was always amazed by that.

When I was a kid, I hated spiders just like The Boy. Now I still don't like 'em, but I get along with them ok as long as they follow my one simple rule.

Rule #1: If I see you inside my house, you're gonna die. Unless you'e like a harmless cobweb spider, or one of the little fuzzy black spiders with the white stripes on your legs. You guys can live. Other than that, dead. D-E-D, dead.

there are only two kinds of sp*ders I tolerate. The black fuzzy ones with the white knees and bright green face.... and the big pretty garden sp*ders that don't come off their web until they die. i like them...they don't hide where i can't see them.

other than that, sp*ders are evil evil evil BAD thingies.
