to start the new job. They want me to be there Monday. Do I dynomite and then pee on this bridge or do I put the new job on hold for two weeks?

How did you explain the carpet fibres in the urine ?

8/25/2006, 08:59 AM
No dynomite! Graciously thank whomever is appropriate and tender your resignation. A lot of places will immediately escort you to the door as a matter of company policy (and to keep you from absconding with company secrets.) If they want you to work out the two weeks, explain that you would be happy to help train your successor, but that if an earlier exit is possible, you would appreciate it. Exploded bridges might be fun for a few minutes, but they smell bad and may leave you with messy cleanup later.

I say give them the two week, finish one week, then take vaction days(if you have any) for the last week. Oh, and take a fairwell dump in the other guy's filing cabinet.

On my last job (2 months ago), I had my entire office cleared out except for wall hangings prior to my vacation. I took my vacation, gave notice, and they allowed me to stay a week. I figured I could have been out the door in 5 minutes if they told me to leave immediately.

That's how I did the last job. I can have this office ready to be cleaned out in 5 minutes after lunch. I just gotta sneak stuff to my car. My stuff, not theirs.

Dear 1TC,

We regret to inform you that there was a mistyping on the social security numbers, and we received someone else's background. Upon fixing this error and receiving your actual background records, we have been recommended by an individual in a previous location that you are unfit to fill this position with our company at this time. We thank you for your interest, and we will keep your file on record for 180 days. We will notify you if we have any openings in the future that your background check will not cancel out.

Sincerely,
People at the new company who were getting all of the carpeting removed from locations you may or may not be at.

Find out where her current employer is, and let them know. SOP, really.

I'm pretty sure that that isn't legal.

C&CDean
8/25/2006, 01:49 PM
You give an employer two-weeks notice because that's what decent people do. You don't throw your cigar butts down on the green. You don't light your cigar in church. You don't **** on your girlfriend's rug. Well, decent people don't anyhow.

Scott D

not SOP. Most employers now in order to avoid possible lawsuits over slander won't say anything other than to confirm that an individual worked for them between time x and time y.

It's also a reason that most states of a 90 day 'At Will' window. Termination of a job within that window no questions asked lends itself to privacy, for both the employer and ex-employee.

Don't businesses usually check up on references? I guess that's what I'm thinking of. You don't screw over your previous employer because they can make it very hard for you to get another job... In this case you wouldn't have to worry about legal repercussions as much because she left a freaking voicemail.

Unless Chick deleted it. :O

Scott D
8/25/2006, 01:55 PM
Businesses can call to get a reference. But in CYA tactics most businesses will only confirm if an employee worked during a set time period, and possibly if that individual is rehireable by that business.

It's dirty pool to screw over an employer the way that girl did to Chick and them, however the screwjob goes both ways when someone tries to do the decent thing, and they get shown the door the minute they put in 2 week notice.

I thought there were laws in place to require employers to give 2 weeks? Or is that not true in Oklahoma?

how's this

Boss Man, I am turning in my two week notice. I have really enjoyed my short stint with Company X and feel bad about leaving after such a short time but I fell into this new opportunity and I cannot pass it up. This new opportunity for me is not construction related.

I hope I have done some good while I was here.

Thank you,

There are no laws requiring 2 weeks notice (unless stated otherwise in a contract). Employment is an "at will" thing. I know where I work if anyone gives notice (rarely) I just go ahead and make it effective that day. I've seen too many people act like an *** to customers on the phone after giving notice.

Business will only generally advise if you were employeed, how long, and if you're eligible for rehire.

Whew, I hate quitting jobs. I know, I know. My boss was cool about it and said he wished I wasn't leaving but if someone offered to double his salary he'd leave tomorrow. The Super said that I was an ***hole for leaving him with Other Guy. They want me to stay at least another week. I gotta get Lazy Guy up to speed on what I've been doing and what loosed ends I'm chasing down.

:D. God be with ya.

When you go to the panhandle have:

a) A full tank fuel when you get past Shamrock
b) A two week supply of food & water
c) A satellite TV system
d) A DVD player with lots of DVD's
e) A two weeks worth of clothes
f) Books, magazines, etc.
g) Lots of TP
f) A laptop
