So, the BF and I are going to Las Vegas over Labor Day weekend. I'm soliciting suggestions for the best sport book or other place to watch OU and other college football games on Saturday.

Also, what are the possible upsets the first weekend (and why)?

Thanks! BOOMER SOONER!!!

So, last I checked, ND was favored by 4 against Georgia Tech, and USC is favored by 8 against Arkansas. I've read on several websites that ND has a good chance to lose against GT. A friend of mine from Arkansas - huge Hogs fan - tells me I should bet the farm on USC. Thoughts?

Mandalay Bay has a GREAT spot to watch all the games - a bunch of bigscreens. It's all the way at the end of the strip, but it's a nice spot.

I've always thought that, except in rare situations, first week games are terrible bets. Who know what the new offenses are like, who knows what players show up on gameday, etc, etc, ad infinitum. After the first week you can at least have something to work with.

I gotta throw my hat in with Caesar's. Great sportsbook.

A buffet right close to the bar, desks or tables, out of the way of everything, great spot to be in.

Not to mention, what was it, two? Three years ago? My brother-in-law's best man and I gettin' the whole book rockin' back and forth with shouts of "BOOOOOOMER! SOOOOONER!" much to the dismay of the folks present in puke orange as we uncorked yet another one in the win column.

Good times, man. Good times.

1. Mandalay Bay.

2. Caesar's.

Upset: GT over ND. Because Calvin Johnson is a beast and the Irish secondary isn't. And last year was a fluke.

I think USC is a good pick...they should win going away.

ND will be looking to put up good numbers for Brady Quinn's Heisman run, but they lack depth and their secondary is not great. GT at home is no cake walk, but ND probably covers. For me this will probably be a "leave it alone" game.

I think there will be better games to take as the lines are posted.

BTW...Where did you get these lines?

Bally's is good, lots of screens. Stay away from MGM, for as big as that place is, the sports book is quite disappointing

There is nothing like Caesars Palace on a Saturday afternoon. That is if you're not in Norman. Steps to make it a great day.

1) Wear your OU Shirt.
2) Get there by 8:15 AM local time to get a good seat. Games will start at 9:00. You can make bets and final game decisions during this time. A personal aside, don't bet on or against the slide rule guys (Northwestern) if they play an early game. They will let you down no matter which side you’re on.
3) Make sure the table's personal TV is in good working condition. This is the first week of the season I would expect it to be in tip top shape. Of course they have at least 4 Jumbo screens the size of Dallas playing as well as a bunch of smaller screens. There are also your ordinary big screens working as well.
4) Bring a neck brace in case you should strain it from snapping your head back and forth watching too many games.
5) Hot dogs can be bought inside the sports book.
6) There is a Mexican restaurant inside the mall that someone can make a run to that serves Margarita’s in cups shaped like footballs. Great for celebrating a Sooner win or mourning your losses. Sorry I can’t remember the name of the place.
7) Bet Hawaii should they be playing the last game of the day, but not any other time during the day. This insures you don’t leave until at least Midnight Vegas time. It will also be on the Tube because who else is playing on Hawaii Time? It will be over just in time to go to a 1 am poker tournament somewhere.

More importantly, do you teach classes on this? Going to Vegas with your man the first weekend of the college football season? Can I send you my wife's information for training?

Reggie "Throws it away on 4th down, on the final drive of the game" Ball is still the QB. The ND pass rush is improved, and the rest of the defense will be average.

GT sucks. So does their coach.

I'll take ND allll day long.

I agree. I think ND will have problems with their defense, but Charlie Weiss has enjoyed 9 months to prepare a gameplan for this one. No shot for GT.

I would take USC all the way. It won't be the massacre it was when the two teams met last year, but USC is still at least 8 points better than the Hogs.
As far as another possible upset on the opening Saturday, I'm leaning toward taking Cal over Tennessee in Knoxville.

I just did a search on google for "college football lines." I don't remember the particular website it was on, and, admittedly, it was several days ago. I think they had OU -21 and UT -40 against UAB and UNT, respectively.

LOL. I'm probably a bigger football fan than the BF, although he is better on the technical aspects of it (formations, etc) since he played in HS. I'm not sure that can be trained. ;)

Didn't SC beat Arkie by 70ish last year? I would agree that 8 points seems like an easy cover, provided Jesus doesn't play for Arkansas.

No, but Mitch Mustain does. At least, that's what Arkansas fans would have you believe.

Yeah, for whatever reason they have been showing the USC/Ark game multiple times on FSN, and I think the final score was 70 something to 10 or 20 something.

The athletic director for Fayetteville High School (where the U. of Arkansas is based) is a guy by the name of, you guessed it, Dick Johnson.

The USC-Arkansas game should be an anatomy lover's delight. You've got Dick, Johnson, Booty, Nutt and the Trojans all in one game. USC also has a linebacker named Deckas. And a punter named Woidneck.

i wouldnt bet on either of those 2 games you mentioned

i do think cal will beat tennessee - but i dont know the spread
the best bets are gonna be your 40 point spread games.... and take the underdog

The best website to see your NCAAF lines is pinnaclesports.com

Texas -41 v. NT
OU -21 v. UAB
Tennessee -2 v. Cal
USC -8 @ Arkansas

Arkansas should be quite improved this year, but when the line was made, McFadden was healthy. McFadden is one of the better RBs in the nation (though he doesn't touch AD).

Of those 4 games, I'm not putting any units, except maybe 1 on USC. At first glance, the OU-UAB game seems like one to take UAB, but you all have me sold on Paul Thompson, so I'll wait a week before I bet an OU game.

'Course, we were heavily favored in our opener last season, too, so you may want to take that into consideration.

UAB generally plays major conference schools pretty tough, too. I'll just pass on that game this upcoming week, and pounce on better OU lines, like when they play the Whorns.
