THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! i am so freakin sick of hearing how we are going to be down this year because of all the crap that happened. the freakin whorns are replacing their leader, the freakin condoms are replacing their qb and top two running backs, but they are considered to be two of the top teams by all the media. We are replacing a sophmore that had POTENTIAL, but was not by any means great yet. ENA is already the leader of the offense with the respect of all his teammates. the two teams named above do not have that yet! we have a defense that i wouldnt trade for any other out there. oh yeah, i hear our running back ain't too shabby either. the season cannot get here soon enough. i am so ready for freakin espn, and si, and whorn fans and sheephumper fans, and everybody else that says we aren;t going to do **** this year to have to eat crow. all this"talk to me after the uab game or oregon or whatever" talk is really irking me guys. HAVE FAITH! WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM WITH GREAT LEADERS AND GREAT COACHES!!! It was a shock in 2000 to everybody across the nation. It's gonna be a shock again this year. sorry for the vent, but i've been getting really frustrated lately living in texass and hearing all this crap from my coworkers. So to soonerus, i say thank you. BOOMER F"N SOONER!

wow, calm down there, scooter:D . ok, now about all of this wait until after uab/oregon irking you, we're just trying not to go through a repeat of last year. last year, most of the guys on here, myself included, thought we were gonna be one of the top teams in the country. we got burnt. i'm just trying to avoid that same feeling. i'm very optimistic about this year, but i'm cautiously optimistic. i don't know what to expect from this team, and no one here truly knows what is going to come out of this team. i do think we will be better than last year, but i'm not gonna go through the rah-rah i went through last year just to make myself look like an idiot

I like the enthusiasm. But you truly have to temper that with some realism. The main problem with our reality is our offensive line is both 1) unproven (for the most part), and 2) paper thin for depth.

I think the reason USC & Texas are getting better treatment in the press, aside from voter biases geared around last year's performances, is that those teams have solid O-lines. We don't.

All of our hopes for the first six games hinge on our defense. Hopefully it will buy the offense time to come together as a squad.

It's doable. Boomer!

We had an epic o-line in '04 from what I remember. But our secondary was vulnerable and we lacked some intangibles...some fire and some poise. I think this team will play more on edge and a little harder and I think our defense will be more solid and a little more salty (for lack of a better word) than the '03 and '04 defense. There's a lot that goes into a champtionship team. There's no way this team blows opponents out like in '03 and '04 but neither did USC in '04 or Texas in '05. I like our chances of keeping games close and spreading around some Sooner Magic. But what do I know?

I like your thinking .
It seems to me that most fans are not getting the whole ENA charisma thing .
This team has been let down big time . Now ENA will make em jell. Why ? cause they already believe that No one else believes in them . Our 06 team is gonna have a Big chip on its shoulder, out to prove they are great. as I already know they are .
I'm seeing " Impossible catches being made . Impossible runs being made" , And Our D being so stingy they make scrooge mcduck look flamboyant
:D As I look thru my Crimson colored EYES :D

I hope the ENA brings some serious charisma. This team has the talent to be truly special. I just hope they bring it all together and destroy some people. I'm also counting on the 'AD's dad out of jail' bit for a few 200+ yard performances. We have the attitude on the line this year to make that happen. I think Duke will be chucking dudes King Kong style this year.

I think the key is for the players to believe in PT, even if he does not start out fast we need to keep the faith. Also, I think we will be 100% better this year if we can just not fumble on the center snap which really hurt us last year. No QB/Center fumbles!

Sooners still sorting out deep defense
By GUERIN EMIG World Sports Writer
8/22/2006

Sapulpa's Pendleton is a sure replacement for Dvoracek, Ayodele.
NORMAN -- How many Oklahoma defensive tackles does it take to replace Dusty Dvoracek? Would you believe nine?

"I want everybody to know how much I believe in this rotation, and it's set in stone that I'm playing nine," Sooner defensive tackles coach Jackie Shipp said recently, tongue buried in cheek.

Seriously, now. Dvoracek was a load. But worth the weight of nine 300-pounders?

"You can play four," Shipp said, this time straight-faced. "Sometimes you can play five."

Which begs another question: Which four or five? Who's ready to replace Dvoracek, now property of the Chicago Bears, and Remi Ayodele, another 2005 senior who started five games alongside Dvoracek at tackle?

"That's way too early to start worrying about," Shipp claimed.

Two more weeks of practice, the thinking goes, is enough time to flesh out a rotation. For now, the only safe bet appears to be Carl Pendleton, the Sapulpa junior who should make his 20th career start Sept. 2 against Alabama-Birmingham.

Steven Coleman, who has spot-played the past two years, started alongside Pendleton Aug. 12, the last time OU

opened a scrimmage for public viewing. Cory Bennett, a sophomore who started the '05 opener, and heralded redshirt freshman DeMarcus Granger were next, followed by two more redshirt freshmen, Cordero Moore and Claremore product Billy Blackard.

Sprinkle in true freshmen Gerald McCoy -- the USA Today Defensive Player of the Year at Oklahoma City Southeast last year -- and Adrian Taylor, and suddenly Shipp's joke doesn't sound as funny.

"It's incredible," Pendleton said when asked about defensive tackle depth. "It's the best it's been since I've been here."

That it's relatively unproven depth?

"I'm impressed with the young guys," Pendleton said. "When I came in, we kind of struggled for a long time to pick (the defense) up. These guys are not having that problem. These guys are going to be great players."

Both Shipp and OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables applauded Granger and Blackard last week. Venables added kudos for McCoy and Taylor.

At the same time, the two assistants stressed the need for the youth movement at defensive tackle to be just that: moving.

"We're still working to get better and need to get better between now and the first game," Venables said. "But progress has been made. I've been pleased."

"They all have great upside," Shipp said. "The bottom line is to get it out of them."

Shipp got it out of Dvoracek, just as he got it out of Tommie Harris, another Bear, before Dvoracek. Somewhere out of the mass of Sooner defensive tackles, he expects to get it out of someone else this season.

"I don't think players think, 'OK, Dusty's gone. Oh, I gotta do this,' " Shipp said. "I don't think it's anything they put on themselves. They just step into that slot. Happens every year.

"Every year somebody leaves and somebody steps up."

Oh gawd....bout lost my job last night as it took all I had not to pummel some idiot at work. Out of nowhere he started running his pie hole about how OU was gonna get beat down this year. He's like "Paul Thompson? Who's that? Are you kidding me, that guy sucks. OU is gonna get destroyed this year." I had to put him in his place and let him know that he will soon know exactly who ENA is and that OUr defense alone can win football games. His reply was, "Can you beat Texas?" My reply of course was, "They have a 1st year QB, we have a 5th year QB, we are gonna stomp them." I told him to just wait and see...wait, watch, come back and see me when it's over....which I know he will not.

We also have another one that starts with a G has a hispanic type of ending too. I only remember because I met his mother recently (my mother works with his mother.) He transfered in late Summer from a school in northern Oklahoma and he has a redshirt and 4 years of eligibilty. He was injured late preseason and after his first few practices one of the coaches was quoted as saying "Where have you been boy?"

Evidently he didn't play ball at his previous school, and he was injured his senior season of HS, so he wasn't recruited. Anyways hes a walkon and from what his family says hes a stud. He was listed on the roster at one of the scrimmages but hes not on soonersports.com on the roster.

I just figured he was one of the walk-ons because we don't have him listed on our interactive roster (with the bios). His name is Joseph Guerrero. Number 59. RFr from Moore. 6'1", 275 from OKC CC. Others I called walk-ons (and may have been incorrect about):

66 Kevin Jones So. 6'4" 280 from Little Ax (East Central U).
69 Buster Luke Fr. 6'2" 270 from Plano, TX (Prestonwood Christian Academy)
71 Zac Howard Fr. 6'0" 250 from Shawnee

It could be that we have up to 16 OL on scholarship.
