No sympathy for car thieves, but... I'm guessing he's going to need a very good lawyer to prove self-defense after chasing them down with his car before getting into the fight.

No kidding. He should have shot them at the scene of the crime. What kinda dummy uses a carpet knife for self-defense?

This will be easy to defend. He was chasing down the suspects until the cops could take over. The suspects realized this, and wanted to kick ***/ kill the victim. The victim, picking up the only thing he could think of for self defense for a 2-on-1 fight, used said carpet knife to thrust through a suspect. Case dropped at a hearing. Ruling: Justifiable homocide.
