I have a son who is turning 4 this week. Is that too young to get him a fish tank for his room? He like going to the pet store to see the fish.Any Advice for ease of care

TIA

We got our son a betta when he was pretty young. They seem pretty easy to take care of.

I shattered one with a hammer when I was about that age.

My middle son tried to clean out the fishtank in his older brother's room when he was 4.

With toilet paper.

Needless to say, the poor fish didn't live long after that. :D

I'm thinking 85jr. isn't going to get a fish.

Not too young at all. Just make sure you supervise the feedings, or else he might overfeed them. Then you'll get a good life lesson and maybe an animal biology class to boot.

I have a friend with a kid about that age and a fish tank. The kid likes to stick his hands down in the tank a lot. The fish tend to die quickly.

depends on the kid

if you think he'll enjoy it, it's probably worth it. at least fish are cheap

Some 4 y/o's are mature enough to handle the responsibilities inherent in fish ownership and actually become greatly affronted when they are subseqeuntly denied their piscean property.

Get him one, but keep it out in safe view (not in his room). Otherwise, he's not as likely to go into his room and give his fish some snackies about every 30 minutes which is what our girl did.

When I was 3 my parents got me 3 fish, we named them Sock,Shoe, and Lucky. Well...they found Sock in my sock drawer, Shoe in my shoe, and the only one who survived was Lucky :)

The boy got a Betta for his 5th birthday. He still has the same one a year later. Very easy care! As for putting it in his bedroom, I don't know. We have our in the living area.

Mini-Boarder 1 got two fish for his birthday two days ago. He'll be 3 tomorrow. We put it in the kitchen just in case. Oh, and one of the fish already died.
