For bowling, you sorta have to be good at it to not look too bad. Ditto for ice skating.

Putt-putt golf is better. Make a few wild swings occasionally and pretend that you're letting her beat you.

Take her to a book store. Pre-select a book of poetry and read her your "favorite" verses. Besides, some bookstores have a small lounge area to drink coffee.

Live music is good. But, it is often too loud to carry on a conversation. If the dinner conversation didn't go too well, maybe that is a good bail-out scheme.

I know you've already selected the restaurant this date, but on a future date you can go to a non-chain pizza restaurant and pre-arrange with the manager to let you make your own pizzas.

A couple of years ago, I went to a sushi restaurant with a couple of friends. At the restaurant, we meet some SWTs who were going to school at UAA. After several rounds of sake, we decided that it would be funny to go neon bowling.

Now, I AM kinda good at bowling. I bowled league for a couple of years and I usually averaged 175-180. Not great, but not bad.

Unfortunately, it had been several years and I hadn't bowled since. Plus, as I mentioned-several rounds of sake.

First game was quite frustrating for me. I don't bowl well drunk. I may have broken 70. Seriously, it was that bad. The girls are taking pity on me. I'm furious-I don't handle it well when I don't perform as I expect.

Second game...better. A 115, which won the game. Still not happy, because I'm a better bowler than that.

Third game, I catch fire. I open with two strikes. Third frame, as soon as I let the ball go I know it's right in the pocket. Drunk and agressive Froz turns, places his thumbs in his armpits, flaps his elbows and utters the most not-getting-laid phrase in history.

"Gobble gobble, bitches."

So yeah, don't go bowling on a first date.

Date went well. Ended up going to Victorias...along with everyone else in Norman. Couldnt think of anything to do afte that (she wasnt in to matching tats)so we just went back to her place and watched a couple movies. When Harry Met Sally is a good one.
