and two very unfortunate little girls.

Dangit, stories like this make me believe my now deceased retired Ardmore cop grandpaw was right when he said "they should put contraceptive drugs in the drinking water and people should have to apply and demonstrate responsibleness in order to qualify for the antidote."

BROKEN ARROW -- Police are looking for the mother of two girls who may have been physically abused in addition to being found Tuesday night living in a rural Broken Arrow home filled with dozens of dogs and feces, authorities said Thursday.

"They found it to be deplorable conditions," Broken Arrow police Maj. Mark Irwin said. "There was feces ev erywhere, on the floor, through the house."

The girls told law officers and social workers that they were sometimes punished by being tied or handcuffed to a bed, Irwin said. Investigators also removed about 37 dogs from the home on Wednesday.

"They were very distraught," Irwin said of the girls, ages 14 and 5.

"They did find tie-down straps and fur-lined handcuffs with straps connected to a dog collar," Irwin said of investigators.

The girls lived with their mother, who was not home at the time that authorities stepped in, Irwin noted. Police were working with Wagoner County officials to arrest her, but she has not been charged with anything, he added.

Authorities were still investigating the allegations of physical abuse, Irwin said. He would not release the name of the mother until she is arrested.

Doug Fields, who lives about 100 yards south of the house where police removed the dogs, said he and his wife never saw or heard anything unusual at the residence.

"I've not seen anything too far out of normal," he said. "The girls would be in the yard, playing."

Fields said that in addition to the two girls, he believes a man and a woman lived in the home. Fields said he sometimes talked with the man.

"I don't hang out over there, but I've helped (him) unload hay. He's borrowed my tractor -- (I) guess you'd say we're occasional friends," he said.

Fields said the the man who lived in the house told him the woman who lived there was "OK one minute and the next she'd be upset or yelling."

"I didn't associate with her much," Fields said. He also said he had heard the couple arguing. Fields also said he knew there were dogs in the home, but "I didn't have any idea there were that many."

"There's a Doberman pinscher in a pen in front and an old German shepherd follows the little girl around when she's playing outside," Fields said.

Here's my solution: Leave the dogs in the house with no food for days. Then, lock the mother in there.
