I'm trying to make a simple column graph in Excel. There are two data series, one using the primary value axis and one using the secondary value axis. The columns for the two series start out side by side, but as soon as I assign the second series to the secondary value axis the columns for that series get drawn on top of the columns for the first series, i.e. the two columns are no longer side by side. :mad:

I say to you: WTF? :confused:

Yep, I think a line/column combo is the only way to do this.

Uhhh...PowerPoint can't make graphs on it's own.

Can't you choose subtype "clustered column" instead of "stacked column" when you make the chart?

It's a clustered column chart that's doing this. The bars for the second series are drawn on top of the bars for the first series. If the second bar is longer than the first bar it covers it up. It's definitely not a clustered/stacked problem.

Yeah, I don't think that Excel does two colums with different axis. I think one must be a line. I usually get one of the analysts to do it and then when they do it wrong, I fix it. I think I have them trained by now which is why I don't remember.

It won't work with 2 "Column sets"

You need to either make one Columns & the other lines, or make both lines.

Right click on one of the data points on your graph, & change the graph type.

Instead of only using standard types, look under custom types and try using the "line - column" combination options?? If not, PM me, I do this **** all day long for work......
