Dad Update

First of all, cancer still succs.

We found out the cancer has indeed spread all over his brain and to his liver. At about 3:30 am yesterday morning, my mom and I drove him to the hospital because he was having trouble breathing. Turns out, on top of the brazillion other things, he now has pneumonia.

We are trying to just keep him comfortable and as pain free as possible. The hospital is the best place for him right now.

So an update: With his condition, they are transferring him to a specialty hospital on Monday. The doctors have said there is no way my mom would be able to care for him long term at home and this is better for him to just move him from one hospital to the other. For us, it is a relief. We worried about the type of care we could provide, even if hospice came in to help.

On a good note, he is alert and talking to us. He is very tired, but at least he knows that we are there. Yesterday, he was counting down to the first game. It's my prayer that he gets to see and enjoy at least one game this season. His new hospital has some sweet flat screens in every room.

This afternoon my mom was sitting on the end of his bed and he was sitting next to her. He reached over for her hand and I had to try really hard to keep from crying. My parents haven't ever been the couple that always held hands.

Well yesterday we moved him to a care facility closer to our homes. He told my mom and me today that he's just "tired of being tired." The disease and the medicine make him really sleepy.

We did decorate his room with some OU stuff and this afternoon we went to the dining room to hear gospel singing.

In the meantime, I helped an older lady with a jigsaw puzzle. Another lady complimented my purse. I like old people.

Thanks guys. We need them more than ever. Last night they took him from the nursing center to a hospital b/c of difficulty breathing. His pneumonia has returned.

Today at noon they said that short of life support (which would be against my Dad's wishes), we are looking at 2-3 days. He is on full oxygen and they are keeping him comfortable with pain meds so he will rest. When I left at 11:30, he had a fever hey were trying to break that is due to the pneumonia and cancer.

Thank you so much for the prayers. Continue to pray for his comfort and peace.
