I know there has been discussions about his place in the past however without going into three pages of how much he sucks or doesnt suck, is it a place that makes a decent steak? Place I should at least try once or should I look else where?

It's actually surprisingly good. He partnered with Hal Smith (Charleston's, Red Rock Canyon Grill, etc.), and a lot of the menu items are things that Smith's other restaurants serve, sometimes with a twist. My favorite is the meatloaf, which is identical to RRCG's meatloaf. Garlic mashed potatos, etc. The prices are actually a little more downmarket than the other restaurants, and the portions a little bigger, because they understood who would be coming through the door.

I haven't had a steak there (I generally reserve my steak eating for Mickey Mantle's Steakhouse), but they look great and I've had several people tell me they're nice.

They also have a chicken fry that, as far as I can tell, actually gets larger as you eat it. I have seen some really big eaters try to tackle it, and their plate was still pretty much full when they finished.

If so, I would reserve a steak eating nite for that place, as well as a few hundred dollas (unless work is paying for it ;) )

ditto.

however, Mahogoany is not a "celebrate the 30th with some friends".

Mahogany is "trying to get the wife to try something new so i need to bribe her". Plan to spend a bill/person at mahogany, more if you are drinking.

You're right. Give them both another chance. Everybody has an off day. I'm with you. Mickey Mantle's, especially for the price they charge, was not a place I'd ever care to go to again. The steak wasn't near the quality I've had at Mahogany, Boulevard or even The Mantel. I can't complain about the service though as I thought it was good. As much as those places rake in, there's absolutely no reason for poor service.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Daddy Hinkles expecting a good steak. I've been twice and it was quite possibly the worst steak I've had in a restaurant setting.

Criminy...from Wiki-

Chicken fried steak or country fried steak is a food preparation associated with soul food and Southern U.S. cuisine, particularly Texas. It is a piece of beef steak, coated and fried as if it were a piece of fried chicken.

Chicken fried steak is prepared by taking a thin cut of beef steak and tenderizing it by pounding. It is then either immersed in batter or dredged in flour to which salt, pepper, and often other seasonings, have been added. After this, the steak is skillet-fried or, less commonly, deep-fried. The frying medium has traditionally been butter, lard, or other shortening, but in recent years health concerns have led most cooks to substitute vegetable oil.

The cuts of steak used for chicken fried steak are usually the less expensive, less desirable ones, such as chuck steak, round steak, and occasionally flank steak. The method is seldom used for higher-quality cuts such as rib-eye or sirloin, since the results are little better than those achieved with lesser cuts, at greater expense. The method is also sometimes used for chopped, ground, or especially cube steak. It is traditionally served with cream gravy and generally mashed potatoes and other vegetables.

Variants are common, with chicken fried chicken having appeared on many menus substituting a boneless chicken breast for the steak. Notably, chicken fried chicken is very different from fried chicken, even fried chicken made with boneless chicken breasts[citation needed].

That's exactly what I ordered. However, I ordered the roquefort sauce on the side because I wasn't sure if I'd like it. Any time you need to smother a steak in sauce I get worried.

As I said, it was good. I'll give it another shot sometime. Probably the biggest down side for me is the location. Since I quit frequenting the clubs, I avoid the hassle of Bricktown at almost any cost.

Also, when I went to Boulevard it was with my wife and one of her fairly attractive friends. Her fairly attractive friend was ording the priciest stuff she could find - and lot's of it. Needless to say, our male waiter was very attentive. Looking back, I wonder if I'd get the same service if I was in there with a bunch of guys drinking cheap beer. :(

Dude, they don't even know WTF iced tea is in Ohio. Order iced tea and you're likely to get a bottle of that Lipton crap. And it's always sweetened.

when used as an enema...

For some reason I'm perfectly happy to drink either sweetened tea or unsweetened tea. But if it's sweet, it needs to be done right.

Most sweet tea tastes like sugar water to me. Except Thai tea. That's some good **** right there.

Sweet tea tastes like sugary metal to me. I love me some unsweetened iced tea with lemon though.

You don't know how hard it is to refrain from making a "roll your *** in the flour and find a wet spot" remark here.

See there's another thing. I don't care how tasty they may or may not be, what would posess someone to intentionally eat testicles? If you're starving, maybe, but there's got to be a good burger laying around somewhere. I can't believe someone would actually CHOOSE to eat that.

Yet another reason you probably shouldn't go to Toby's. Or Cattlemens, for that matter.

Depends on how fresh it is. I don't mind nibbling on some taint, as long as it's really, really fresh.

Still twitching fresh.

I'm not offended if they offer it on the menu, I'm just amazed anyone would actually choose to order it on purpose when there are other choices.

lunch = light meal so you won't konk out at your desk

dinner = eat what you want cause you'll soon go to bed

lunch steak = small, affordable steak that won't knock you out

dinner steak = large, small whatever size you want cause you don't care if it knocks you out

you really need to find your inner hillbilly . . .

Well hell, given my experience with "chicken fry" I figured the obvious answer might not be the correct one.

you really need to find your inner hillbilly . . .

Is it hillbilly to want a truck that can pull a boat if that boat is a sailboat?
