Do any of you know why USS Batfish here is tied down. Is someone afraid she'll slip her moorings and float away?

The reason it's tied down is because there was water under it for a long time. Not sure if it was a big creek, lake, or whatever but they drained it a few years ago and just didn't remove the ties.

How steady is a sub sitting on the ground? Maybe it's tied down so it doesn't blow over when the wind comes sweeping down the plains?

No idea........the flooded river hypothesis sounds good though.
