I think something is happening with the Baby Boomers' kids - at least the ones who didn't turn out to be queer or criminal. I believe that the thirtysomething parents tend to over-parent. That is, they try really hard to be a good parent because their parents were such schmucks.

My brother-in-law is kind of this way. He lived in a typical divorce household in the 70s and early 80s. He's a great dad, but his kids...man, can they get into stuff and throw fits...meanwhile, he just sits by politely encouraging them to behave.

i honestly believe that most of the kids here today (and for the next 3 days) have never heard the word "NO".

like bill clinton and the word "IS".

Do not hold back discipline from the child,
Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die.

I've been teaching for 8 years going on 9. Every year it seems to get worse. Parents will even ask me why their child behaves better for me than for them. I tell them it's because I actually give them boundaries. Without boundaries most children end up like Barooka on "Willie Wonka and the Chocoate Factory". It's not pretty.
