Show me a painter and I'll show you an alcoholic

I've had 3 or 4, unrelated people say this to me in the last year. Have you guys ever heard that painters have a high alcoholism rate?

p.s. I'm talking about commercial painters, not artsy painters.

Pretty much holds up in my experience.

He's dead now, but THE go to guy for sign painting in Ardmore when I was kid was a dominos buddy of my Pop's. My childhood memory of him was he always smelled like whisky. He must have been a high-functioning alchy though because he did great work.

The alcoholic buzz goes well with the chemical high from all the paints and solvents.
