Must be a person who likes to check reality at the door...check out this quote today from espn.com.

"…Strangest thing said during the first day of ACC Kickoff? Virginia Tech safety Aaron Rouse had several reporters shaking their heads when he said: "If Duke wasn't in the ACC, they'd probably be the No. 1 team in the Big 12 or somewhere.""

Was he talking about hoops? Nice!

Now that is a funny statement. Duke beating Big 12 teams in Football? Not Baylor, Kansas, or even KState.

According to the school handbook, the Hokies name originated in the 1890s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1890s). In 1896 the team was in need of increased spirit and attendance. A competition was held for a spirit cheer and O.M. Stull, a member of the Class of 1896 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1896), invented the word "Hokie" as part of the winning cheer, now known as the Old Hokie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Hokie). "Hokie" was a nonsensical word used as an attention-getter in the cheer. Stull received a $5 prize. Around 1908 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1908), Tech students began referring to student athletes as "Gobblers" because of the way they "gobbled" up ample servings of food at the dining halls. In 1913 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1913), a local boy serving as a clown mascot had a large turkey pull him in a cart at football games. From then on, fans and sportswriters associated the gobbler with Tech's athletic teams, and for many years the school's official name for its sports teams was the Fighting Gobblers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Gobblers); though the term Hokies was widely used, the official designation was only changed in the mid-1980s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980s) by then-football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) coach and athletic director Bill Dooley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Dooley). A costumed Gobbler mascot (now the Hokie Bird (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokie_Bird)) was introduced during games in 1962 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1962), and has been a symbol of school spirit ever since.

There is no such thing as a Hokie. It's a word in a dumb *** chant they made up a long time ago.

something like-- "Hokie Hokie Hokie Hi! Give a cheer for VPI!"

I Hate VT.

Heh. The sad part about it is that the pathetic VT band plays this song all througout their games. Their tradition is a frickin' joke man.
