Heard a theory advanced over the weekend that is kinda interesting. This medical perfessor d00d theorizes that we are a nation of fatties partly because we have a/c. He posits that because us mammals aren't genetically disposed to eat copious amounts when its blazing hot, the fact we have nice cool homes, cars and offices means we stuff our gullets with cheezy poofs and overeat all year 'round.

Sooo, if you want to eat less, turn-off the a/c and roll up the winders. You'll soon be too hot and sweaty to eat and you'll end up all svelte.

That is all.

I'd rather just work out and eat right.

I'd rather just eat what the hell I want and pedal it off later

So if you're skinny and have the AC on all the time, what happens when you turn the AC off?

So if you're skinny and have the AC on all the time, what happens when you turn the AC off?The same thing that happens to socks that were in the hot dryer.

This theory stinks.

Ever seen a fat camel?

This theory stinks.

Ever seen a fat camel?Just think how much fatter a fat camel would be if he had some air conditioning.

Yeah, right.

Most of my ancestors are from northern Europe. It rarely gets over 90 degrees there and they aren't a bunch of fat-asses. I think the real problem that changed over the last 100 years or so is the instant access to food that we have.

a\c was around long before fast food, tv popularity, and video games.

Not in Hickville it twere'nt. Us hillbillies is the fattest of the bunch. Back in days of yore...about 1974, my parents got a/c -- not central mind you, just a window unit that cooled the family room. Before that it was a swamp cooler, which in Ardmore OK didn't help much on muggy days.

Anyhoo, I do recall we ate lighter stuff when it was hot than in the winter. Mostly fresh stuff from the garden, maybe a hamburger patty ("hamburger steak":D you know.)

Look, I feel there may be something to this in the sense that we have so successfully insulated ourselves from anything that requires us to sweat, within another 1000 years ago, if we don't blow the world up in the meantime, we'll all be just big 'ol tubs of Cool-Whip with brains.

We need to make our kids get out there and do stuff too. Limit their tube time (gaming/videos) and lead by setting a good example. We also should never "super-size" anything ordered at a fast-food joint.

Nah, fascination with crap like Survivor, American Idol, Lost, etc...is more of a reason why we are a nation of fatties.
