So I'm having me a brew or two shaking off the dust of OKC in a historic watering hole on Route 66 in the cultural center of Oklahoma (Tulsa) this pm.

I'm talking to a regular who begins to recount tales of a bar which used to exist called the "Shy Clown" here in Tulsey-town.

According to this d00d (to whose veracity I cannot attest) there used to be this joint at which such musical legends as Eric Clapton, et al used to blow in and play sets without fanfare.

The bar was owned by this large woman who was the daughter of some guy named Smith who used to own the ballpark when they were the Tulsa Oilers.

Said large woman (actually the declarant referred to her as a "fat girl") apparently enjoyed some kind of relationship with brother Leon Russell.

Anyhoo, I did a GIS and apparently the place actually existed.

That is all.

Google "Taylors Inn "
It was a big band ball room thing in the 40s
I saw a lot of Old stuff there before it burnt in the early 90s

Heh. I decided not to bother sending the resume to Liverpool since some jobs opened up in this country again.

Damn that trick table.

On a somewhat related note, I found out my grandmother used to not just dance to Bob Wills' music at Cain's Ballroom, she apparently actually danced with Bob Wills himself.

A lot of cool stuff happened before 1985 PG. Just saying.;)

Example: We actually had an era that ran from about 1966 until about 1980 in which people wildly and randomly skronked without benefit of latex and hardly anyone ever got sick.

Heh, not a bad choice. I'm still a McNellie's man, but that's probably just 'cause I've got a mug there. ;)

BTW, our lost sheep made contact with me. Apparently he has been hanging out in the Pacific Northwest with the loggers and yeti and jkm...

Shy Clown was there. On Harvard somewhere between 11th & 41st if my memory serves me. Missed the entertainment, but sipped the suds there a few daytime hours. Don't recall seein' Leon there.

I've said before on here and I'll try to get more details about it, my gf's Dad's best friend is an old Tulsa croner. he told me that one time Clapton stopped by whilst they were doing a set at some dive in Tulsa and were told he had George Harrison outside in his car.
I'm thinking this was around the time Clapton recorded his country album with the Tulsa folk.
