I'm getting a new iPod and I need some opinions...

get microsoft's little insurance thing. those ipod things are one massive pain in the rear if you look at them funny.

i'd check out other brands of mp3 players as well.

Anyway, 30GB should be plenty unless you plan to carry around a lot of video files on your iPod. Of course, video eats the battery a lot faster, too, since the screen has to be lit up the whole time.

Right now I have 4.2 days worth of music on my iPod and it's only using 9.75 GB. (I don't count it in "songs" because for about half my library 1 "song" is about 30 minutes of music. Stupid Mahler, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky did not conform to average "song" length.)

i use the thinking i have with my cd's. i keep about 15 in my car..listen to them till i get sick of them and switch them out. sorta what i do with my mini.

it's 2x the space... i could almost fill 30GB with just music, 60GB could get eaten up pretty fast with video

the battery life is longer with the 60GB too

There are so many external speaker deals for iPod now. I think even Sam's sells them. Get one at the price point that makes you most comfortable.

I have a JBL onstage and an iHome alarm clock. they both sound pretty good and they both charge the pod.

Keep in mind that Apple is about to introduce movie rentals through iTunes. You may want to have more storage.

i know the make docks and stuff (sorta like a super alarm clock) kinda thing...but i'm busy and not responding on this thread fast enough so someone else suggested this.

The way I see it, with 60 gig you have 30 gigs to store music and 30 gigs to store whatever else you want, ie to store a backup of every single digital picture you've ever taken. That way when your house burns down, you haven't lost all of your pictures.

I wish i had bought the 60 gig one.

Putting Itunes on your computer there shouldn't be a problem. Maybe it is a recent change? Half the people I knew had it on their computers. I elected for an Ifusion which was portable and quiet enough not to bother other people.

Sharper Image makes a pretty good egg speaker dock. Sounds pretty decent. Bose also makes an ipod speaker dock, but I think it costs more than the ipod.

i'm gonna jump onto this thread.... I actually have enough money to buy an iPod now. Any chance of prices going down soon? Or are they going to come out with some fancy new one around christmas time and stop selling the previous versions? i don't even really want one with video, but i'll go ahead and do it since i have to...

And seriously guys, is it worth the extra $100 to get the 60G? i already don't like the idea of spending $300 on something small enough to fit in my pocket.

I still don't have all of my CDs converted and I am using about 15-20 gigs. I want to have enough room to store all my digital pictures. The video part is cool, but I rarely watch videos on there. Well, except for strongbad emails.

Oh, and DON'T LOSE THE CABLE! I can't find mine and the replacement is $20 or $30. I've decided I'm going to have to look harder for it.

have you checked on ebay for the cable? you can get them pretty cheap there.
