I think it's cartoon network's Adult Swin promos that are referring to it as the "trampling of the people" or something.

Nope. When I was a callow collegian a wealthy chum from Meh-hee-Ko invited me to visit his palatial home (built by starving peasants for very little pay.) As part of my "tour" I was taken for an afternoon of "Blood and Sand" at the the Bool-fighteeng arena.
Besides the horribly out-of-tune band, lustily pumping out an assortment of all-sound-the-same Paso Dobles, there was a another bright spot.
Some "newbie" matador managed to get heemself keelled by zee Bool!
Being a good sport I cheered the victor, much to the horror of the assemblage.
