View Full Version : Don't mess with my son! Second try

My younger son was at work Sunday moring, by himself, which is usual for slower time periods. The company had sent out a warning to all of the store in the Metroplex about a couple of guys stealing videos. They included a description of the guys and their vehicle and their modus operandi (SP?). The thieves would back into a parking spot by the front door and one guy (say guy A) would come in to grab the videos.
On Sunday morning, my son recognized guy A and the vehicle from the description. As guy A ran out the front door, my son tackled him and put him in a choke hold. One of the customers in the store called 911 and gave them the tag number of the vehicle. Guy B, in the vehicle, got out and begged my son to let guy A go. My son said guy B was almost crying while he begged. Guy A dropped the 16 videos and eventually my son couldn't hang onto to him, so he escaped. My son called his boss, who arrived before the local police (20 minutes). At this point, my son realized guy A bit his left arm - with the adrenaline, my kid hadn't even realized it. Customers gave statements, police got a copy of the video, my son made a statement and the police took pictures of the bite mark.
I am glad that my son wasn't hurt worse and that the guys didn't have guns or knives. And he still has a job.

And my son is 6'1", weighing in at 160-170 when wet. He works out - much stronger than you would by looking at the skinny kid.

Your son is lucky that Stanley really didn't want those videos.

I'd be proud of his courage and conviction too. That is indeed admirable. Seriously.

That said, here's the scary part. If those clowns had been armed, its not worth getting shot or stabbed over a bunch of DVD's.

Absolutley. There are no videos worth your sons life.

Your son rocks. What did his boss tell him?

By the way, I was wondering what Bruce was up to these days. I'm just not sure if he was the biter or the crier.

So we're talking non-porn videos, I guess. :)

I'm suprised he didn't chew the kid's *** out.

The PHB's have a tendency to punish people who do stuff like this. I know that at one point 7-11 had essentially told its employees that if they fight back at any time, for any reason, they're fired.

(Dunno if they're still doing this tho).

My son called his boss, who arrived before the local police (20 minutes). It took the police that long to respond? Did they know that the thugs had already left?

Man, that's scary. Thank goodness they didn't have weapons. Hell, thank goodness Thug B was a pansy. I'm not a parent, but I'd chew the ever-living hell out of my kid if he did something like that, unless he was trained or something.

Don't get me wrong, Baja! Jr. is a brave lad and deserves to be commended for protecting his workplace, but... Crap, man. It's just DVDs...

IS he getting an HIV test? If they get the perps, I would make that a court ordered test...

That's what I was thinking after reading Baja's post.

3 to 1 your son's company issues a companywide statement saying to NOT do what your son did for liability purposes. While his actions are admirable from the 'he stopped someone' aspect, he went the route that could have gotten him more injured than he was.

If you knew my son, you would be surprised too. He is very laid back. He admits it was just reaction, not planned. We did talk to him about the value of his life. The bite didn't break the skin, no burning when he cleaned it with alcohol. But we do plan on the HIV test if they re-catch the guys.
Our lovely police department is just a step above the one hassling SicEm.
His immediate boss gave him a gift certificate. He doesn't work today, so we don't know what corporate will say.
As to the videos, he said none of the ones taken were even worth watching a first time, let alone stealing. A thief with no taste.

I've heard that Wally World will no longer stop or prosecute shoplifters as long as you don't hit them for more than $25.00.

This has been a public service announcement for Poor Aggies everywhere.

Even with all the dangers mentioned, I'll bet your proud.

Seriously.

Yes, it was dangerous. Yes, in these times it's not recommended. Yes, there are all sorts of reasons not to have done it.

But it was the right thing to do. Spek to BajaSon.

Hope Baja Jr doesn't get in trouble with Corporate. And I'm glad he wasn't hurt worse.

The only critique I'll offer is that your son needs instruction in the proper application of a choke hold. The perp should have died before he escaped.
