He also was in the Disney classic "Pete's Dragon." He played the sidekick to the eccentric traveling doctor.

For some reason, I always thought Red Buttons and Red Skelton was the same guy. They also looked strangely like one another.

Red Buttons with John Wayne in "Hatari"..catching African animals for zoos...Wayne sat in a makeshift seat on truck hood with lasso on a stick...caught giraffes, rhinos, wildebeasts...bizarre. Red made a rocket that flew a net over a tree to catch dozens of monkeys. I can't make this stuff up.
