Very nice story. He does seem older and more experienced than he is.

Capel, who understands he might have been, at best, the school's third choice behind West Virginia coach John Beilein and Connecticut women's coach Geno Auriemma, is expected to keep the Sooners at a national level after Sampson's excellent 12-season run, which included a Final Four appearance in 2002.

Huh? Geno Auriemma? Seriously?

Huh? Geno Auriemma? Seriously?

Yeah, that surprised me as well.

I had forgotten he was the coach behind the 2004 VCU team that almost took down Wake in the first round. That's not bad... I wish I could watch that game now to see how his coaching is...

Makes me even more excited for BBall season!

with all respect to the women's game at OU and Sherri, i have a REAL HARD time believeing that we would have hired Geno A.

my pops has been a hoops donor for 30 years and around the university....and i never heard him mention one thing like that....

that said, i'm not a big fan of Katz or DeCourcey.

edit: for bad (beer) grammar, and we never had a shot at Beilein either.

that's the first I had heard of Va-Geno being a candidate too.

Sounds like Capel is getting a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Nice read. Sounds like he has a pretty good plan.

I hope the plan works. One thing going for Mr. Capel is that last year's team played so much worse than expected so folks are a bit more forgiving. It will be great if a higher budget takes Capel's achievements to new heights. What are the odds that we will have three successive coaches who take us to the Final Four?
