I have CMT on in the background. A Jack Ingrahm song was on, it seems a lot like a Pat Green song. I had heard good things about Jack Ingrahm and expected more than bland garden variety country.

This may be the only time I actually agree with the use of that image.

I'm sure that you are talking about Jack Ingram's number one single 'Wherever You Are.' I don't like the song either. Jack didn't write that song, he did use it to get some radio play in order to get his foor in the door. I understand you not liking the song but if he didn't record that song the masses wouldn't be able to listen to his awesome stuff.

I'm being nice.

''There's a gulf between what I think of as country music and what is considered mainstream,'' Ingram said. ''But I think the bridge is being built. I got tired of (griping) about the fact that the gulf was there, and thought it was better to try to do something about it.''

It wasn't that one, it was Love you, or some thing to that effect. It seemed like Trace Atkins should have been singing it instead.

Same deal. Love You is his new single. Big Machine had him do these two singles, he didn't write either.

To answer your original question, Jack Ingram began playing and singing before Pat Green did. Pat Green has said before that Jack was one of his early influences.

Not Jack Ingram. Name me one of his frat rock anthems? He doesn't write 90% of his songs about drinking and getting drunk unlike many others.

I'll go find the quote but a guy interviewing Jack called him the 'King of the Frat rockers' and Jack said something to the effect of 'hell, it's nice to be the King of something, even those dip****s.'

No Barbie Dolls at SMU?

I was just coming to post that song and I'll concede one frat-rock song in his catalog

J. Ingram/T. Snider

I see you looking and I know what you think
You’re getting braver with every drink but
I am telling you something you need to know

She may look like a sweet young thing
Talking to him but she ain’t hearing a thing
If you were smart you’d turn around and let her go

That girls’ a Barbie doll
A Barbie doll
She’s real good-looking but she’s got no heart at all

She puts on her makeup and drives to the bar in her
Boyfriend’s old man’s brand-new car
She’s got no idea what she does or why

She does whatever she wants I guess
Whatever comes first or whatever looks best
Nobody I know has ever seen her cry

(Chorus)

You should have seen her last Saturday night
She had a friend of mine treating her right
She was hanging on him until she found a better deal

You should have seen how cold she got
My buddy asked why and she said why not
Nobody I know swears she’s even real

(Chorus)

wrote this one for his dad

Where in hell did you go
You left us all alone I wasn’t even eighteen
You never turned around
Like some kid out on the run
You headed for the fun down in Biloxi
And the Gulf of Mexico

Where I guess the girls they’re pretty
And nobody says it’s late
And you can stay out all night long and never have hell to pay
Down in Biloxi
Even when you’re forty-one
Just forget your problems
Down in Biloxi

And you only came around
To take a rest and come down from Biloxi
But you were not the same
Pretending that you cared
Pretending you were there and not in Biloxi
And the Gulf of Mexico

(Chorus)

Did you really think you’d find
More than you left behind back home in Houston
We all felt the loss
I don’t mean to bring you down
But I wonder what you found there in Biloxi
Tell me, was it worth the cost

Well I hope the girls were pretty
And nobody said it was late
And I hope you stayed out all night long and never had hell to pay
Down in Biloxi
When you were forty-one
You forgot your problems
Down in Biloxi

They're all ripping off Robert Earl Keen.

But that's okay. Robert ripped off Waylon Jennings. And Waylon ripped off Johnny Cash. And Johnny ripped off Hank Williams. And Hank ripped off Bob Wills.

pretty much.

Jack's album " Livin' or Dyin' " on Rising Tide back in 1997 and produced by Steve Earle he said that when the execs were listening to it they said that he sounded like Steve Earle. He was excited until they said, No you sound like Steve Earle, we already have him. Then he jokes that he got one over on them because he was trying to sound like Willie Nelson.

*edit* Mustang Burn is about a little fued Jack had with REK. They hated each other for a long time.
