I did not miss him.

You're not alone, apparently. ;)

Froz, sorry we could not work out a time to meet on the way back. Sure would have liked to. We stopped in Girdwood on the way and I discovered Woodstock has offspring that is alive and well.

I think I am in depression from being back in Dallas - seriously. Alaska is, without doubt, the most breath-taking, awe-inspiring scenery I have ever experienced. I am really glad we ended up in Seward instead of Ninilchik, I think it was better suited for our overall trip.

The only pics I have accessible here at work are from the first day kayak trip. We boated out from Whittier to Blackstone bay and kayaked around some glaciers. These were taken with a diposable point and shoot so the quality is not great...

The back of Jr's head going through an ice flow. My rudder pedal broke off in the middle of this, so that was fun...

A water fall from the melt of a glacier. I wanted to get in closer until our guide told me a story about a buddy of his that was killed from a calving at this ver fall. At the end of the day we were back on the other side of the bay and heard the thunder of a calving, looked back and a huge portiond of this very ice had calved and filled in the rock over the waterfall.

You can't get a feel for the scale and enormity of these things from the pics. The tiny black dot at the bas of the ice on the water is about a 30 ft boat and is probably still 500 yards from the glacier. This think is probably about 2 miles wide.

Here is Jr and me.

I'll post some other pics later. What a great trip. Every day was just awesome. I truly envy you, Froz, for the area in which you live.

Thanks for sharing those pics. I've been to Alaska as well and I agree that the scenery is amazing. Did you take a cruise to Alaska or did you fly up there and rent a car?

If by "string" you mean "leg" and if by "pullers" you mean "throwers" than yes.

Howzit
7/11/2006, 01:37 PM
If by "string" you mean "leg" and if by "pullers" you mean "throwers" than yes.

If by "yes" you mean "I have peanut butter and I'll use it," then...I don't know what you mean.

I'm going on an Alaskan cruise in May 2007.......sent my deposit today! Woo Hoo - go me!! My husband has never flown, so this ought to be fun. I told him if he decides to lay down at the airport and throw a 6 year old "I'm not going" fit, then the cruise is paid for and I will have several others lined up to call to go with me!!

Standing offer: anyone who comes to Anchorage can get a free beer from Froze.

Problem is that Froze is a busy guy around his birthday, so try not to come in around the 7th.

Sorry we couldn't hook up Howzit.

Some of my Alaska highlights were Kennicutt, Coldfoot, the Yukon River, the bears, the glaciers, and seeing Denali looming up out of the clouds on the flight into Fairbanks.
