I have some movies that apparently open up only with windows media player. Or it opens with anything, and its a windows file. Whatever. I need to burn it to DVD. I cant do it, I am guessing I need to convert it. Anyone have any good suggestions, free programs, or another way to do this?

And for the record, it isnt illegal material I am trying to copy. I aquired it quite legaly, I just want to be able to watch it on something other than my computer.

TIA.

If you want it to take forever, the free Movie Maker 2 install with Windows should be able to handle it.

I have a program called 'divx to dvd' or something like that. It's on my home PC so I don't know the exact name of it. It handles converting multiple formats to burn to a dvd that can be played in a regular dvd player.

I downloaded it from download.com a year or so ago. It was free then - not so sure anymore.

I see DivX for Windows. Same thing?

Or there is this: Artisan DVD/DivX Player
Watch DVDs and play files in various video, audio, and image formats.

So I can play it in that, but who knows if I can record?

I am

I don't think it's the same thing, but I'd have to look into it some more.

doesn't sound like you can burn to dvd.

I've downloaded several small usefull programs from download.com that are free. You have to watch some of them for spyware though. Read the editor and user comments.

This (http://www.dvd-tool.com/dvd-burner/avi-to-dvd.html) looks like an elaborate ad, but the software seems to have a free trial download... So I'd take a look at this.

When in doubt, ask the internet (Google).

you should just need dvd editing/burning software and it will convert it during the burn.

I'm pretty sure you can't burn WMV to DVD without converting it first.
I have to get back to work now (they expect me to do that here ;)).

If you can wait, I'll PM you later today with the details on the program I have at home. Otherwise, I'm sure there are dozens of free programs out there that will do the conversion.

Try NERO out - www.nero.com , it's a 30 day free trial

Ah. Ok. Some light is shed on the confusion. I'll be at work later tonight, but the info would be well appreciated. Thank you.

What version? Nero 7 has a video recode feature that should do the trick.

Nero Express?

Nero Express?

That's probably not the full blown version. Go to nero's web site and read
what all it can do in video editing, recoding, etc.
