I'm going with something classic, like "Zippity-Do-Dah".

The same three that are used for all funerals in my family. I pretty sure that's what they had at my dad's funeral.

The following is true:

I'm going to tell Dad's favorite joke.

Guy gets a telegram. He says to the kid delivering it, "Listen, I've never gotten a telegram before and I want this to be a singing telegram!" The guy delivering the telegram says, "No, you don't want me to sing." But the fellow is so excited and determined. He says, "You've got to sing it to me! Please!"

Finally, the guy says, "Okay. dum-dum-de-dum dum dum! Your sister Rose is dead!"

Thank you! Try the veal!

At my aunt's funeral (Mom's sister, the only real aunt I ever had), she
had ordered the family to SING "I'll fly away" at her funeral.

My aunt was one of the few people on this earth I can guarantee you
would be in heaven at her death. She had the peaceful aura of
exceptional faith and belief in God. She was a very special person.

My dad wanted me to play Neil Diamond's 'Flight of the Gulls' off the Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack at his but I forgot to tell my mom.

She had them play 'Unchained Melody' I think that's the name of it.

My Dad loved the songs "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross" so they were played at his funeral. However, he had another favorite song that was also played....Mack The Knife. It reminded me of the scene in The Big Chill when Karen played "You Can't Always Get What You Want". People didn't know whether to laugh or cry - and most did both!

I don't know about my parents funeral but I want this one played at mine.

At My Funeral
(From the album "THE GHOSTS THAT HAUNT ME")

I'm still young, but I know my days are numbered
1234567 and so on
But a time will come when these numbers have all ended
And all I've ever seen will be forgotten

Won't you come
To my funeral when my days are done
Life's not long
And so I hope when I am finally dead and gone
That you'll gather round when I am lowered into the ground

When my coffin is sealed and I'm safely 6 feet under
Perhaps my friends will see fit then to judge me
Oh when they pause to consider all my blunders
I hope they won't be too quick to begrudge me

Won't you come
To my funeral when my days are done
Life's not long
And so I hope when I am finally dead and gone
That you'll gather round when I am lowered into the ground

If I should die before I wake up
I pray that the Lord my soul will take but
My body, my body - that's your job

Well I can't be sure where I'm headed after death
To heaven, hell, or beyond to that Great Vast
But if I can I would like to meet my Maker
There's one or two things I'd sure like to ask

Won't you come
To my funeral when my days are done
Life's not long
And so I hope when I am finally dead and gone
That you'll gather round when I am lowered into the ground

For my mother (1997) it was "Just As I Am".
For Dad (2002), the retired Navy Master Chief next door came to me and said "We in the neighborhood all surely did love the Colonel. He loved us too, white, black, or brown. He loved us all. I'd like to sing for him one last time" (Dad loved Joe's gospel songs.) So, Joe sang "It Is Well With My Soul" at the service (SRO!)
T'was wonderful!

RIP, Sir (And I hear his voice saying..."Carry on, Captain!")
