I had dinner with a mentor of mine yesterday. He convinced me to leave a "blue chip" company 5 years ago and sacrifice my body and family to 70 hour work weeks. As it turns out, it was the correct decision. Then he asked me, "what is your definition of success"?

How would you answer that question?

Well, I'd have to say true happiness....no matter where you live, how you live, with whom and with how much. If you can say I'm truly HAPPY, then, in my opinion you are a tremendous success.

FYI, I have my days :), but I'm working on it!

For me, success would not involve anything that sacrifices my family.

And to me, part of being successful is learning from your mistakes and not repeating them. Making sure at the end of it all, you do not regret things you should or should not have done because you are happy where you ended up.

I want to have a nice family, a job doing what I love doing, enough money to live comfortably, and season Baylor football tickets. I'd consider that a "success."

I kinda' like what Brother Dave Gardner (comedian from the 60's) had to say.

He 'splained it this way.

Success is gettin' what you want.

Happiness is wantin' what you get.

Interesting....but would you sacrifice 5 years of your life for financial gains???

If I was single, yes. In a heartbeat. But, I can't think of a 5 year period of my kids life that I would trade for financial gain.

I rec'd a promotion at my last job and it required a lot of travel. I absolutely loved the work and made great money. I left after a year because I was missing my 4 y/o grow up. Today, I could pay off my house with the stock options I gave back. I don't regret it for a second.
