A guy sold me a 6 to 4 pin firewire a while back but neither my comp nor my mom's has a 6 pin firewire port. Can I get a 4 pin to 4 pin cable?

I'm trying to put video from a miniDV camera I bought my mom onto either hers or my computer and then burn it onto a DVD.

I also cannot get either computer to 'see' the camera when hooked up with the USB cord.

TIA

Canon MiniDV Camcorder (ZR600)

MiniDV: The Canon ZR600 records high-quality digital video on small tapes, allowing for an exceptionally-compact camcorder body.

Widescreen HR recording: Record video in true high resolution 16:9 letterbox format for playback on widescreen TVs.

Zoom: The powerful 25x optical zoom lens and 800x digital zoom give you an incredible range of focal lengths. Simply select from three pre-set zoom speeds and Smooth Zoom Control does the zooming for you, giving you steady, professional-looking shots every time.

Widescreen 2.7" LCD: View your widescreen shot in the large, 2.7" LCD screen. A Widescreen button lets you switch easily from standard 4:3 to 16:9 Widescreen HR.

Image stabilization: The advanced image stabilization system keeps shots steady, even when using the zoom or LCD screen.

DoubleShot technology: Capture digital photos on a SD™ card or MultiMediaCard. You can also take snapshots at the same time that you're shooting video

DIGIC DV: This signal processing circuit uses two different color techniques to maximize video and still image quality.

9 Point Ai-AF: Even when your subject isn't in the center of the frame, the ZR600's 9 -point Auto Intelligent Auto Focus will bring it into sharp focus.

Programmed AE modes: Choose a mode to move the camcorder controls to the perfect settings. Modes include EASY, P, portrait, sports, night, snow, beach, sunset, spotlight, fireworks.

DV terminal: Also known as FireWire or iLink, the IEEE-1394 DV terminal is a high-speed digital interface that ensures virtually no loss of video or audio quality when transferring your videos to a computer.

USB interface: This convenient feature allows you to transfer still pictures to your PC via the USB port.

I think her camera is actually the 400 or 500 but it does have the IEEE-1394 4 pin connection near the AV jack and the small USB port.

Not if you consider yourself a good Christian.

Do you have the driver disk that came with your camera?

It should work fine through the USB adapter.

From amazon.com

First, murphy's law #1 if you are going to transcribe your video to your PC never EVER use the software it came with. Use some good image capturing software that already has a reputation for good editing. I used NERO and it literally took me 3 minutes to shoot a 10 sec test video, connect the camera to my pc, record the video, and encode it into a high quality mpg on my desktop.

Second, murphy's law #2, go to your local frys or central computer and buy an $7.99 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable. Oh yeah if you dont know what firewire is or you have a computer that doesnt have firewire ..you are a moron..why the hell did you get DV camera and not know that fastest and easiest way to transfer your video to your computer would be via firewire. The camera does not come with a firewire cable or a DV tape...no biggy..i bought a sony 4 pack for less than 8 dollars on sale. The only con i have is the battery,,,it sucks..if you sit there recording longer than an 45 minutes ..most people dont, but a nice solution: check the manual..because you have the option to upgrade to a better battery (diff model number battery)that lasts forever ..i got it on ebay new for half the price.

It will not transfer video via USB. The USB cable is there only for transferring still images that you probably aren't going to take with the camcorder anyway.

People don't become obscenely wealthy by giving money away.
