Arthur Bryants is the only place in town for BBQ as far as I am concerned.

but we found a few better while there last year for the OU/KU game....Famous Daves, Gates, and Oklahoma Joe's were our favorites....ate BBQ 5 times in 3 days.......my dad and I were loving it....can't say the same for my wife though.

I'm not much of a fan of the Gates sauce... Oklahoma Joe's is my favorite around here - even if it is an aggie venture.

If you'll be gambling at the Ameristar and want to really get your grub on, check out their buffet.

For BBQ, I would recommend Gates. Even though it's a chain, I like Jack Stack BBQ as well.

If you are going to the Plaza while you are in town, Kona Grill (Hawaiian grill with fish, steaks, sushi) and Baja 600 (southwestern grill/Mexican) both have good menus, good food and are fun places to eat (good atmosphere/nice patios).

Jack Stack is absolutely the best BBQ in town - and it is definitely not a chain. There are 3 locations, the original at 135th & Holmes, 2nd @ 95th & Metcalf in Overland Park, and the 3rd in the Freight House District downtown.

For Italian, I recommend Milano's in Crown Center or MezzaLuna just off 75th on Quivira.

Steaks - Piropos in Parkville or Plaza III

I just moved here and ate at Arthur Bryant's down in Jazz District (I think on Holmes?). Quite good; looking to check out the rest soon.

My mistake on Jack Stack. For some reason I thought it was a chain.

I agree on Plaza III for steaks. I also like Garozzo's for Italian.

Gates, pick anyone of them, is the LAST place I would go for BBQ, in KC or anywhere else. Arthur Bryant’s is a different taste as far as BBQ goes but I like it. You can split a sandwich and fries and have food left over. Jack Stacks is good but a little pricey. I have only eaten at the Freight House District so I can't speak for the other two. Carinos for Italian hands down. Another neat place I would recommend in The Savoy Grill down on 9th street. This place has been there since around the turn of the century and has been host to Presidents and even Harry Houdini.

They also have a B&B in the old Savoy Hotel now but I have not stayed there. http://www.bbonline.com/mo/hotelsavoy/

If you are out Independence way I would also recommend Stephenson’s Apple Farm. For a neat meal or late evening cocktail go to Skies on top of the Hyatt downtown. It's a revolving restaurant with a great view of the city.

Another neat place to go was The Gold Buffet but it closed about ten years ago. :(

I am sure I will get mixed reaction on this but I like Winsteads down on the Plaza for hamburgers. The lime-ades have lime sherbet in them. There are other locations but The one on the Plaza is the only one I dine at.

UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!

Just so this doesn't get to SO...

Any of you think the Chefs got a shot this year? :D

Sooner24 - Have not heard of The Savoy Grill but will have to try it, thanks.

Although it's pretty much all chains, you can find just about anything you want in the Village West area. It has really expanded out there.

As for the Chefs, it will again depend on their defense. Although getting older, the offense should be able to again be near the top of the league.

Anyone heard how Q is doing?

Plaza III or Hereford House for steaks. Stouds pan fried chicken is quite good, Oklahoma Joes has very good BBQ, I'll second or third Jack Stack as well. Downtown, if the weather is nice, go to John's Deck and go to the roof for drinks, especially at night. If on the Plaza, check out Odowds, again, head to the roof if weather permits.

Hard to go worng getting a big steak or BBQ in that town. Gates is kinda a must do at least one time, just for the experience of hearing MAYIHEPYOU? MAYIHEPYOU? the second you walk through the door.

If you like Chinese/Asian food, try P.F. Changs. It is on the south end of downtown, and a short distance from the World War I Memorial Park.

I would go to The Golden OX over Hereford House but that's just me.

I am planning on going to Kansas City is August to see the Royals and gamble a little. Anybody know where the best places to eat?

Just eat at "The Range" at Harraha's Casino. It's one of the best restaurants in KC. Their steaks are second to none and their BBQ is awesome.

Granite City is great as well. http://www.gcfb.net/

If gambling and playing slots, Ameristar. If in westport, you must have a beer at Kellys. Harpos is the best sportsbar in that area.

Barbecue is barbecue. There's not much difference between decent barbecue joints in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas and KC.

Sad to report that, due to street/bridge reconstruction, Stroud's 85th street location is closed as of a few months ago. They are being very picky about choosing a new location and everyone is on pins and needles waiting for an announcement. A word about Jack's Stack: Do not---repeat--DO NOT FAIL to order their Crown Prime BBQ Beef Ribs. It must be experienced. MUST!
