So last night Mrs. Ike and I were both feeling a little under the weather and decided not to go to the cookout we were planning on attending. This also meant that we would not be joining our friends to watch the firework display.

So around 9:30 when I could plainly hear every town around here popping off their fireworks, I decided that I would walk to a small hill thats just beyond my house and see if I could get a view of them. Turns out, I think I had the best view of anyone around here last night. I could plainly see and hear 5 different towns fireworks displays along the part of the horizon that wasn't obscured by trees. I could further make out flashes and pops from behind the trees of 3 others. It was a nice scene.

that is all.

we went to a cookout/pool party earlier in the day but it was rained out in God's country.

We went on top of the Tulsa Regional Medical Center Parking Garage Downtown. You could see the fireworks from I'm guessing the Osage Casino and Boom River. Nice Family crowd and when it was over you could get right on the BA Expressway and be home in 5 minutes.

Lots of folks with OU chairs right below the oSu sign too. :D

Zero poke chairs.

Went to Kaboom town in Addison, TX. Supposed to be a Top 10 show in America. They showed people on the news that got there 6 hours early for a good spot.

Anyways, it started raining a little bit, so they started them 15 min early and 15 weak *** minutes later, it was over. They scrapped it. I thought for sure they would do it the next night or tonight. Nope. That was it. People came super early and from far away to see this show. And as soon as they stopped the fireworks, it stopped raining. And didn't rain the rest of the night.

And I got bit by fire ants.

No, but there was a very large wildfire just off of I-10 yesterday.
The plume looked like one of those massive F-5 tornado pictures
you see.

For the last four years, I could step out on to my front porch and see all the fireworks from Edmond to Piedmont and everywhere across OKC, including frontier city and bricktown.

But recently, a developer came in and screwed my view all up so I moved. Now I step out into a forest of trees and a view of a lake. :D

Pre-Katrina, we could see incredible firework displays across the Bay,
into Bay St. Louis, where Casino Magic put on a great show.

They hope to re-open in the next 6-8 months.

I just hope you didn't become a carrier for the West Nile Virus by venturing up that hill Ike.

On Monday, we went to Southlake's annual July 3rd fireworks show and it took an hour to get home because Southlake Town Square was jam packed. Cops were stopping traffic on 1709 for 10 minutes at a time just to let people out. When we finally got up to STS (we watched from the Kroger parking lot), it was still packed in pretty good.

Last night, we picked a spot where we could see Grapevine's, Keller's, and Trophy Club's displays.

Southlake gets an A.
Grapevine gets a B+.
Keller gets an A-.
Trophy Club gets a C.

Of course, none of this compares with what my brother-in-law got to see from his Apartment rooftop in Brooklyn. We've decided we're going up to NY to see him next year for the 4th.

I could have...the pond that they found the infected mosquitos in is just on the other side of that hill....

If I drop dead from it, I'll post it here to let y'all know....

Almost forgot, they did the fireworks along with a radio station broadcast with music set to the fireworks. The first song? Texas Fight. with Orange and white fireworks. Vo-MIT.

I watched the norman show from the duck pond. We almost didn't go because I thought it would be raining, but at the last minute we changed our minds. It was good I guess.

Watched several shows (primarily Norman's) from on top of Sarkeys Energy Center.... great view! It was pretty amazing to see a continous display of fireworks on the horizon in every direction.
