Impala, right? I drove a recent model Impala to Florida last year; was very nice on the long haul. Plenty comfortable. Decent power.

No complaints (other than my recent rants about GM in general).

Your cousin had a ton of stuff go wrong with him or the car?

i put about 500 miles on one in LA last year, it seemed like a decent car, maybe a bit underpowered

although, i think most cars are a bit underpowered :P

i liked all the room for sure though

Knipplemeir is good people, that is where my dad's company buys their vehicles and I drove him down to pick up his new Tahoe a few months ago. On a side note, my parents just told me they bought one of these:

Yeah, my family does their business with Knippelmier. They drive down from Sapulpa.

Of course, it didn't hurt when my first cousin married Knippelmier's daughter and runs the business either. ;)

Is it an SS? If so, you're doing ok.

Norman Sooner
7/4/2006, 05:12 PM
Nope, no SS....I cant afford the insurance...I think its a good car considering its my first car to buy on my own..It only has 18,000 miles on it and will payed off in 4 years...i think i did fairly well.....

What year is it? Does it have the 3.8L V-6? From what I've seen, that's one of the most durable engines GM has ever made. Pretty torquey too.

I could write a check for 4 of them right now.

Knipplemier folks are the best. Good choice.

Not really. I have the true SS - '96 Impala SS. After that, these are imposters...Not to rag too hard on what they are selling today. I would get a 100K mile extended warranty, GM designs cars to last about 60K miles, then things start to go wrong. Glad I had it on my Impala.

Also, if this car has Dexcool, get rid of it immediately. The stuff sludges up and clogs heater cores. Flush the system out chemically and then refill with the green stuff.

The newer models definitely look better than they used too . . .

Hey, I had a 1977 version of that car that got me through grad school. I could fix it on the fly. You can't do that with new cars.

what makes a 96 "the true impala" ?? what about the old ones.

what about the new ones with the 5.3 ???

bet they run as well as the 96 models. more horsepower, tho they have
about 25 less cubic inches.

not trying to be a wise guy, but since i'm so old, i tend to like the
older cars. had a 62 impala (not SS) & a 65 (was SS) that i liked.
both had 327s & 3 speed manual transmissions & seemed to run well.

I think he meant last true Impala SS. The '96 was the last one with rear-wheel drive.

also last "true" buick roadmaster & big cadillac with rear wheel drive.

they were built in arlington.

"true" is in eye of beholder.

i liked those impalas of late 70s to mid 80s. some of them were 2 doors.

Yeah, I was just about to say that there are a few '62 or '67 owners who would disagree a bit. :D

even as far back as 58.

yermom
7/5/2006, 10:08 AM
yeah, the '96 Impalas were based on the Caprice.

the new ones are like slightly bigger Malibus and with the FWD kinda make me ill

do they even have LSDs?

soonerjoker
7/5/2006, 10:11 AM
original caprice (about 66) was a fancy impala.

yermom

i mean the Caprice at the time...

the Malibu back in the day was fairly cool as well

soonerjoker

i don't like FWD either, but i bet they run fairly well, with 303 hp 5.3.
about 325 cu. in.

torque steer is bad with that much power. (or torque)

bet they run as well as 96 model, which was rated @ 260 hp. if i remember
correctly.

i agree, old "malibus" were very nice.

I would have to say the classic is better than mine...However, you rarely see the classic much today. The next best would be the 94-96 Impala SS IMO. The current "SS" are not as hot as the classic or the mid-90s SS.

I should have made that more clear.

Heh. My former roommate drove one of the 95s and it was substantially higher than that. Of course, his brother runs a custom car shop, last I heard. I think there were a few modifications. ;)

soonerjoker

wasn't allowing for "modifications".
