he's already paid as Lt. Col (O5/6??), and will be pinned in the next
week or so.

I'm proud of him, he's a great guy, and a great serviceman.

He literally started Operation Desert Storm with now declassified operation Secret Squirrel.
At the time, it was the world's longest combat air mission. They flew non-stop from Barksdale
AFB in Shreveport to Iraq, and back. He followed that up with two tours for Desert Storm, and he's
been back twice in the last three years.

Read more on Secret Squirrel here:

I have one of those secret squirrel patches. Call me cool.

As radar navigator in the B-52 program and Offensive Weapons Officer
in the B-1 program, he was consistantly rated the most accurate
bomber in his respective squadrons. Now he's teaching the young officers
how to be that good.

So kudos to my BIL!

He probably knows how to spell colonel. I, on the other hand, relate better
to colonel sanders.

:D

Always glad to hear of another "Bone" guy making good. People who think back-seaters are less important need to remember that if Bone's didn't have those guys they would just be 300 million dollar T-38's with flush toilets.

Grats to your BIL.

Thanks for that link BTW, it cleared up a question I've had since DS.

I specialized in the AGM-86B ALCM when I was in the USAF. I called BS when I first saw the news reporting that the ALCM was being used in Desert Storm because, before then, it was strictly a nuclear missile. I wasn't aware of the Secret Squirrel. It was a 'need to know' and apparently, I didn't 'need to know'. :D

It was really neat at the time - the alert pad at Barksdale usually had
eight buffs on alert, with crews ready.

Then as we built up for desert storm, the eight became 16. Nobody
talked about it, but if you saw the alert pad, you knew something was up.

Then in the middle of the night, half of the alert pad takes off. You know
somethings up. In those days, you think alert pad = all nukes.

Then Bernard Shaw "there's something going on outside....."

CALCM! SMACK DAT AZZZ@@@@#$@#$!$

MY BIL was "on a training mission". heh.

My sister didn't buy it.

Were you stationed at Barksdale at the time? I had a good friend from Lowry AFB stationed there during that period.

Nope, I'd just go out and visit them and stay on base at their place.
