I wouldn't use pink foliage. Pink clashes with the red brick. Whites and yellows would be nice. :)

Brauns is going out of business. Everything is at least half off.

Why are the flowers still in the pots again? You could get several flats of petunias and marigolds then plant them, white ones should go well....

BudSooner
6/28/2006, 09:47 AM
Overall pretty nice, though a Dogwood would be a nice addition.
if you wanted to add a bit more charm-try using stone pavers for th walkway.

I would recommend some planter boxes instead of using plastic pots but the planter boxes i've found look pretty half assed.
You might consider making some instead.

oumartin
6/28/2006, 09:58 AM
they are in the pots still cuz i dont' wanna bury them. i put down the rock that way you could move stuff around. change up the flowers or plants quickly. i made sure to let the hag know that her plastic pots aren't going over well..
:D

MamaMia

A white Crepe myrtle would be nice too. I would make a kidney shaped garden between the porch and window and plant a yaupon holly or a white crepe myrtle in the center. Once you have some shade, plant a hosta underneath surrounded by some small bushes. A red leaf Japanese barberry would do nicely. Accent your display with some ever blooming annuals like petunias or periwinkles and maybe some zinnias in the mean time. Once you get some shade, impatients would be lovely. Always remember to plant in groups of three when making a display. Then I would plant dwarf monkey grass around it as a border.

actually martin, it looks good.

I'm lucky cause my wife likes to keep up the flower gardens in our yard, and she does a good job of it. She has gone with the philosophy of having some perennial flowers and such in the ground, mixed with flowers in pots here and there - gives it a good look.

Gracias.

If you want the plants to do well, its best to put them in the ground with some ammended soil. Why are you so against putting things in the ground? You'll just be using more water and the plants won't be at their optimum conditions being pot bound. Annuals NEED to be in the ground to do any good.

If you ever want to change it out, especially bushes, just hook it up to your hitch/tow hooks and do some redneck removal. :texan:

Whatever kind of boxwood hedge you like/works with your budget would work for the shrubs. The grass in the picture is maiden grass, although you could really use any ornamental grass you like. Begonias up front and a golden lacebark elm in place of the lamp post.

PS - the lawn looks good. good jorb!

The statue of the barefoot boy is a nice touch. And he looks so life-like ! But he's right in the middle of the sidewalk, so you might consider moving him to the side.

And ix-nay on the ots-pay - plant something in the ground. you can still go with the minimalist approach, but - not the pots.
JMHO.

can't i buy fancier pots?

Well, you could, but it wouldn't look as nice, you'd use more water than you would if they were in the ground, and the plants wouldn't do as well as if they were in the ground...

But yeah. ;)
