The wife and I are ditching the kids for one solid week and going to Las Vegas in August. From a Saturday to a Saturday. We haven't been to Vegas in about 10 years, so we are pretty stoked...did I mention it is sans kids. :D

I have been checking out all of the free things to do...I plan on spending enough in the casinos, I need to know what are the MUST see/do things to do in Vegas nowadays. I know that one day is reserved for Hoover Dam, and my wife is dead set on catching the Celion Dion show :(

Any ideas? BTW, we are NOT taking our young 'uns :D :D :D :D

TIA

Go to Mix atop THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay for dinner, drinks and the best view of the strip in all of Vegas.

Take her to dinner at the Eiffel Tower restaurant with a view of the Bellagio fountains. After dinner take a stroll and enjoy the fountains close up.

Breakfast at Bouchon at the Venetian (sit outside).

Take your glock with you just in case she really makes you go to Celine Dion. Shoot either Celine or yourself.

If you really wanna blow her doors off (and your budget) try either Prime or Picasso for dinner at the Bellagio.

You might try a quick trip over to the new Red Rock resort. It just opened and it's off the strip, but it supposed to be very chic.

Wynn is cool. If you can con her into letting you play golf on that course for an afternoon.

I just saw Ka at the MGM Grand and La Reve at Wynn. I can recommend Ka, but La Reve was kinda ghey.

go to the eiffel tower for the view, not the food (very over-rated)

The Fontana Bar at the Bellagio has the best view of the fountains, also a live band.

if you enjoy sushi, Okada at the Wynn ROCKs, don't go to the fancy seafood italian place at the Wynn, it sucks.

Like JM said, go to Mix at THE Hotel, it is very cool.

Tao at the Venetian is a nightclub \ restaurant, great food, and celeb packed atmosphere, make reservations far in advance.

Food at ET was average, view is good though.

I ate at Okada when we went and saw La Reve, I had forgotten until you just said something. It was really good.

Didn't we have a disagreement a while back about Tao? I still say it's overpriced PF Chang's.

I took the Redhead to see Celine Dion for our anniversary...it was not the worst thing I have ever seen. The rewards for attending the show are worth the sacrifice.

Downtown Freemont street is a good place to spend an evening. Lots of older casinos, but I like history. At the Horseshoe you can see the Poker Hall of Fame, etc. Last time I was there I saw Amarillo Slim at a table playing. The big gold nugget at the Golden Nugget.

The Roller Coaster on the top of the Stratosphere is a neat experience.

Depending on what week in August you are in Vegas. The WSOP will be going on at the Rio until Aug 10

A week is a long time in Vegas, I am usually spent (literally and figuratively) after 4 days.

your going in AUGUST???

nevermind, you will never leave the pool, and make sure you stay at a place that chills the pools.

We just got back from Vegas a little over a week ago and stayed at the Stratosphere while there and they were in the process of tearing down the roller coaster on top of the Stratosphere. We were in Vegas for three days and I felt like I didn't have enough time to do everything that I wanted to. I felt rushed and wanted to gamble as much as I could so that's what I did the majority of the time but if you have longer to stay there and can pace yourself with the gambling I think a week is a good amount of time. Doing activities like going to the Grand Canyon and golfing (which we did at the TPC at the Canyons-AWESOME! We got Bob May's autograph in the clubhouse!) will keep you out of the casinos and keeps you from getting burned out on the casinos. It was a fun three day but I'd like to have more time the next trip out there. Good luck and have fun!

crap dude..a week is like FOREVER in Vegas.

With a week, i'd just make a couple of days free days and wander around.

We are going in October....before the OU-saxeT game.....and i am looking forward to it.

Rent a car and take a roadie to the Grand Canyon. Or drive up to Area 51 and see if they'll really shoot at you if you cross the line.

About 3 hours. We went to Grand Canyon/Sedona two years ago for vacation and it was really nice.

7 days in Vegas is a long time.

7 days in Vegas is a long time.7 days in Vegas is an ETERNITY...just a sick amount of time. We won this trip so the lodging is FREE...a time-share 1/2 a block from Paris. And the airfare is buy one get one free. 5 days would do me just fine.

Oh, okay.;)

I remember going to one of those shows and it was pretty good (and pretty cheap, drinks included) at the Flamingo, I believe.
