So tonight my a/c just quit working. No cold air, no hot air, nothing.

Otherwise the car is running fine. It is a 97 Grand Am with 107K.

What is the problem?

Sounds like the fan went out.

You can always roll down the windows.

didn't it do this before?my intake manifold quit a year or so ago. The only other problems I've really had are with the alternator and that doesn't seem to be the prob here,

well they did say not to worry about it as long as the car ran good.

so does the fan run at all? Like if you switch to vent, heat or defrost?

Your muffler bearing is probably about to go out.

Your muffler bearing is probably about to go out. What does a muffler have to do with the A/C?

More blinker fluid should clear that right up.

More blinker fluid should clear that right up.I call BS on that one. I may be blonde, but the blinkers have nothing to do with the A/C.

Well, I'm no car-workin-on expert, but it sounds like a fan problem to me.

...but on the other hand, the muffler has everything to do with the A/C. ;)

But it wouldn't hurt to check the fluid in them anyway. ;)

I'd just like to thank my daddy for teaching me at a young age that men are supposed to know how to work on cars. Thanks pop.

Oh, wait. Never mind.

Well, which is it? Does nothing happen... or does the fan run just a little bit?

Fan doesn't work at all. I'm taking it to my mechanic this afternoon after my doctor's appt.

Fan motor or fan switch would be my guess.

Or there's a gerbil wedged in the fan blade. NTTAWWT.

If you have some time, before going to the mechanic, check out the fuse for the fan. Doc is probably right about it being the motor or the switch but there's a chance that it's the fuse - which you can replace yourself in about 1 minute - and you'll only be out the cost of the fuse. Your owner's manual should tell you where the fuses are and which one is for the A/C fan.

My mechanic is very honest. I've gotten outta there without having to pay a dime so I'll leave the mechanical stuff to them.

My dad was working a poker game in Edmond last night or I would have had him look at it.

We'll see what happens. I really don't want a car payment, then again I'm not eager to pump a lot of $ in this car.
