View Full Version : Would you include Q and Marcus Dupree in your all-time top ten OU RB list?

The Sooner Spectator guy didn't. He did have Billy number one though.

Q - considering the OLs he ran behind, definitely...
dupree - nope

i do agree that peterson will most likely finish #1, especially given our OL situation last year...

let's see (no order, just off the top of my head):

Billy, little joe, pruitt, owens, vessels, AD, Elvis peacock, Kenny King, Lydell, Spencer....that's 10 and there are others. i'd give Q the nod over Dupree just because of what his teams accomplished. though, obviously Dupree was a freak and potentially so many things.

what's the spectator list?

GDC

I think if you bumped Stanley Wilson for Q I could accept that list.

Griffin yes, Dupree no.

To be honest, AD has no business being in there yet either. He needs to prove it again this year for him to be a top 10 RB all time.

Dupree was a tremendous talent but only showed flashes of brilliance.

Griffin is #4 on the all-time rushing list at OU and had great junior and senior seasons.

I would also include Demond Parker on the Top 10 list. Did he include him?

i thought that was a pretty well thought out article, his list wasnt just "recent players" but spanned across the schools history

somebody good is always going to get left off a list like that....

It'd be nice if we could bump this list at the end of the year and get a good laugh.

as it is...I'd put Little Joe at 2 and move everyone else down a slot...Q would be between Steve and Wilson.

The author actually did make an allowance for moving AD up after this season, acknowledging that his career is still a work in progress.

With four solid seasons, Q should definitely be on there.

It will be fun watching AD move up the all time list this season. Which game will he make it to #1? My prediction is Missouri.

King Crimson

given the other QB's yards per carry, including Mildren, Steve Davis, and Thomas Lott...... Jamelle's 5+ is pretty impressive.

how many of you would have guessed Jerald Moore's ypc was higher than AD's? not me. David Overstreet probably deserves some run in this thread.

6/26/2006, 07:20 PM
I'm old school, but Q should be higher. He started for four years and caught a pass in damn near every game (OU record for consecutive games with a catch?), he blocked better than most of them, and if you just chill a bit and watch his moves on video, he was as good as almost all of them. It'd have been to fun to have him as a half-back in the wishbone era. He'd have been as good as most of our most treasured wishbone running backs, and many of our most beloved wishbone running backs wouldn't have done as well as Q did in the Stoops era.

JMHO.

Q absolutely belongs on our list of top ten. solid starter for 4 years, RARELY fumbled, played behind a line that was not necessarily equipped to block for a RB (let's not forget the hands-on-knees that leech and mangino had the OL in pre-snap), won a NC, and represented the university with class. Top ten every day of the week for me.

Dupree MIGHT be in the top 20 for me, but we really don't have much to look at compared to the others.

Q is solidly in the top 10.

Not only as a runner, but let's not forget that he was also a great pass receiver. I think he set an OU record for consecutive games with a catch. Plus he was a great blocker, and he never fumbled.

He was also a great team player. We're talking about a guy who gave up his redshirt 8 games into the season, played hurt a lot in his first 2 years (behind some pretty bad OLs), and never blamed anybody else or was a problem in the locker room.

Quentin Griffin Highlight video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=HhmqTdqbepY

How could you NOT put that guy in the top 10?

If DeMond Parker had come back in '99, and Q not had to come out of redshirt, then Q would have probably won 2 NCs a Heisman (he very well could have won a NC and a Heisman if he'd have been eligibile to come back in 2003), and gone down as a top 3 HB in Sooner history.

Parker's also in the top 10, but not in the upper part of it. It's scary to think what the offense would have been like in '99 with Parker at HB. He probably would have made himself several million dollars in improved draft standing.
