Dudes seriously lost it.

MIAMI — American presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said to an audience of more than 200 in North Miami Saturday afternoon.http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/attack/135159.php

what i'd like to see is a working definition of "Liberalism" from now on.

since it's obvious that most of you who throw the term around like Limbaugh does as the ultimate pejorative have even less clue about it than you do about the the meaning of "conservative". but, if you want to let the media determine the content of your mind and all the while decry the media all the same....then that's your "choice".

Okay, I'll try. Liberals are folks who believe government's role is to enact laws which drive social change and in so doing make society better while making sure no one suffers from want.

Conservatives believe if government would kindly tend to the business of defending the country and keeping up the roads and stay the heck out of the way, the social advancement stuff would take care of itself just like it has for a thousand years through entrepreneurship, private innovation and private charitable activities.

Gross generalizations to be sure, but that's the best I can do with 5 minutes notice.

Oh yeah, most people are liberal until either a) they acquire some property b) they hit 30 or c) they get mugged, raped or robbed.

You're welcome.

WTF does that mean? Okay, yes, strictly speaking, the United States is a "liberal democracy." In the US, the liberals are the Democrats. The GOP are the Conservatives. Libertarians (to which the older and wiser I get, the more I lean) are right of the GOP on some stuff, left of the Dems on other stuff.

Liberals in the UK are roughly equivalent to moderate Dems and Repubs here. Brit "Labour Party" members are socialists. "Conservatives" in the UK are just a smidge left of Goldwater Republicans.

Is that better?

The problem I have with some of today's so-called conservatives it that, instead of wanting less government, they want enough government to impose their "conservative" social values on the rest of the populace. That's why I tend more toward libertarian theory (as long as they keep funding the court for which I work. ;) )

I've always thought this was a stupid argument when in reality conservatives want no such thing, simply to maintain the traditional values of which this nation and our culture was formed.

Of course, when compared to what liberals and "progressives" want to impose socially (anything goes, moral anarchy) then yes, it does appear conservatives are that way.

Oh, is THAT all ?
I think that's all the Puritans wanted, too. Like the Puritans, today's so-called conservatives are also the definers and guardians of those "traditional values."

Instead of "maintain" which implies, or at least allows for, persuasion and consesnus, the word you should have used is "enforce," which describes more accuratety how governments operate, and which is why libertarian don't trust the government to "maintain traditional values."

I said "conservative". Once again, you confuse "conservative" with "republican". As is obvious to even the most blind, there is very little overlap in the two groups any more (delusions are a mental disorder too).

And its obvious George Washington would have NEVER allowed stuff vile as "under God" being a motto for this country.

I didn't say anything about any national motto. I was talking about the pledge of allegiance (you know, the one that was originally authored by a socialist and modified to include "under God" during the red scare).
