Anybody know what a legit guestimate is on current kitchen remodels per square foot?

I'm trying to be fair to me and the other people and just compare to some generic prices.

there are some websites, but they are ridiculous.

I was thinking that it was around $70 at one time, but I'm not sure.

Depends on what you want done, most likely. I mean, if you want all-new appliances from Wolf or sub-Zero or Viking it'll jack the cost way up. Granite counters? Butcher block? Stainless steel? You can probably name your price bracket.

Well, there is a standard that is built around contractor grade installs, and can be modified for upgrades

I don't know, but I found a hard working illegal who is installing laminate (due to kids) floors for a $1 a foot. His brother in law did some painting for us and he did an incredible job.

Do most of it yourself and save. We did and it worked out wonderfully.

Just hire the same guy that put one in your dining room.

Unless you take your sandwiches to the bathroom to eat, I thought that you had a throne installed in the dining room. ;)

Until they stain. A friend has one.

I'd rather have butcher-block counters. You can't use a knife directly on cement.

:les: CONCRETE

cement is an ingredient used to make concrete. flour is to bread as cement is to concrete.

carry on.

No, these counters are made of plain old Portland cement. That's why they suck.

Oh, I've seen plenty of concrete counter tops. Who would buy a portland cement countertop? Wouldn't it chip easily?

I spent more like $150/sq ft. a couple of years ago, and did much of the work (tiled the floors, demolition, electrical re-wire, wired appliance install, plumbing, crown molding, paint) myself. The cabinets were custom, the floors limestone, the counter tops granite. Splurged a bit on things like sink, hardware, lighting etc., but didn't buy any new appliances (the existing were new and excellent quality already).

It easily could have been over $200+ if I had a contractor do everything. In fact, the next door neighbor got a quote for a kitchen remodel at about $240/ft. Theirs included moving a wall and some other stuff mine didn't, however.

It was expensive but a good value. Historic home with a bad 60's kitchen remodel. With other work we did, the house jumped around $75,000 in value over two years, so we captured everything we spent and more, plus had an awesome kitchen, which is maybe more important than capturing value.

BigRedBruce ;)

just kidding. Doing it yourself is more fun anyways. Home Improvement stuff that is.

$14,700 is what I bid the job at.

Of course a contractor friend is subbing it to me, so I can assume that he's tacking on about 30%

I thought that you did it all by yourself. Oh wait, you're talking about the kitchen work. Sorry, my bad. :D
