pic, that's right about Hogan....he did hit a draw but a lot of it was due to the fact that he was kind of a short guy with a slight build...and big forearms. so he was trying to generate a lot of clubhead speed....but the danger for turning his wrists over was the big hook.

in 5 essentials he's got the the "V" of your lefthand grip pointed at the right shoulder and the "V" of the lefthand grip pointed at his chin. (for righties).

yep, that's been my problem this spring. I was gripping way too hard with my right hand and rolling over, thus causing a nasty hook.
I lightened my right hand last time out and hit some good balls.

crazy game.

that's actually a pretty simple game. you know what's gonna happen every time.

So, when I grip too strong with the left hand, and I end up with a strong pull, how is that diff from pic being too firm with his right hand and yet, going left too?

Hogan actually deals with this in the 5 essentials....

the pressure should be on the left hand between the left forefinger and the palm pad...such that *if* you were swinging a golf club.....there's a great illustration of him talking it back left arm only to about 3/4ths parallel with the leverage b/ween the forefinger and about an inch inside the club endhis inside palm pad...

on the right hand, as i recall, he's got less pressure on the two right forefingers such that he advises you could lift them off at "address". for relaxation purposes. and NOT oversteering the club....

now, he also plays a partial interlock/overlap where he curled his right pinky over the lefthand knuckle...and once my "hands" got stronger in late high school, i started to play the complete interlock (like Nicklaus).

the 5 essentials is about the best 8 bucks you can spend on your golf game. it's not theocracy but it gives you stuff to try and it really does start with the grip, stance, alingment.

actually, if it's a staight pull that's an issue of direction of club at impact. you are coming over it and probably taking it away....too quick inside (which also breaks yer wrists--all too familiar with that myself). so your shoulders have to adjust by making a sideways, horizontal rotation at the top of your backswing than right under left and a clean downswing. the other thing the goofy shoulder rotation causes you to do is slightyl lose yer balance....so you hit pulls sometimes (knees lock) and big pushes--when the downswing is behind yer leg/hip turn).

i don't play that much anymore, but i used to be pretty good. so, grain of salt.

when i experimented with the straight Hogan grip it caused a much more upright swing plane and take away.
