I wouldn't mind having 100 shares of Chesapeake, The company that makes Viagra,

oil and gas or medical

but I don't know squat about stocks.

I don't know if you were a Cheers fan back in the day but you remember when Sam needed a lot of money either to buy his car back or the bar and he was like

all I need to do is come up with something that everyone needs but nobody's ever thought of

Yeah, that was a good one. :D

Nanotechnology and logistics seem like the up and coming fields right now.

I just bought 1000 shares of Vonage at the IPO and can't wait for the big returns. ;)

Pssst, I've heard from several of the direction drillers that Chesapeake is a paper tiger...and they pay their bills at 120 days.

Berkshire Hathaway. Currently trades at $92,600 per share. Went up $1000 today.

I know they spend a lot.

How much is there stock worth? I haven't got a clue. What do you mean about the 120 day thing? Just curious. Are they a good company to work for?

Hate to bug you with all these questions, just curious. I always thought of checking them out to work for one of these days.

Berkshire Hathaway.

I don't trust that Warren Buffet guy. He's rich enough to live anywhere in the world--hell, to own just about anywhere in the world--and he lives in Omaha? That's just not right.

Pfizer produces Viagra...after the release of Viagra Pfizer was selling for over $50.00 per share now its around $23.50 with no quality drugs in the pipe line.

I like GM and Ford myself.

And not in a particularly spectacularly great part of Omaha at that. It turns out he just really likes the Saddle Creek Bands and Runza's.

I go with the Will Rogers school of stock picking. Buy a stock and when it goes up, sell it. If it dont go up, dont buy it.

my question would be, why are you wanting to buy 100 shares of one particular stock? how long do you want to keep it?

i'm assuming that you've got ~4K to work with, which is enough to go ahead and diversify a little (if you aren't already).

if i had to pick one stock today, i'd say merck. i like dividends. while i normally stick to buying small dogs, the news from pfizer lately kind of scares me.

I haven't a clue what their stock is worth, but the 120 day thingy means that they wait to pay their bills 120 days after receiving it. At least that's what I've been told be some of the people in our company--that's why we don't do much work for them.

To me that means they're either waiting to get paid from others to pay their own bills or they've got a cash flow problem.

I've only worked for them a couple of times--all with no problems...but I've heard otherwise from several of the directional drillers.

Jimminy Crimson
6/20/2006, 12:32 AM
maybe they just want to make sure the people they owe still want to be paid. ;)

I'd say Wal-Mart. I remember when I worked there many, many moons ago the stock would split about every other year & be worth double within a year of it splitting.

But that would kinda be like supporting Wal-Mart, which the SO is officially against. :texan:

I would think buying shares of Anheuser-Busch in January and selling it around mid-july could profit you some $$$, as racing season starts in February, and then you'd be selling right after the 4th of July weekend. Seems their stock would go up during this time. It may not gain you as much as some others would, but it seems like it would be a safe bet to earn you some money.

Two words. Mason jars.

keep in mind the following before using the mason jar method:

bury your money in a rare and highly collectible mason jar with a solid gold, diamond encrusted lid. this will help offset the depreciation of the money you're burying with it.

Says the guy who had $200K tied up in some "stocks" and today it's only worth $58K. Meh. You do it your way, and may God bless you.

I can spend my $$. I know exactly how much there is. I am not gambling on the whims and fancies of ****ing idiots. And many of my mason jars are full of food as well. I'm covered. For sure. Are you? That's what I thought.

well dean, this time you've convinced me. i'm switching to the mason jar method. i wonder if scottrade will move my money directly into the jars or if i need to buy those myself.

hey, i do need one thing before i make the move. can you post the link of the mason jar strategy's performance since 1929?

Depends on how risk averse you are. If you like a good stock that has continually posted better gains than predicted, look at LIFC. If you want a stock that could potentially go up a ton but could also go bankrupt, look at DNDN.

Performance? Hell man, they've been making jars since before there was a stock market for you fools.

Like I said, you play with your fakey money. You gamble with what you ain't got. Obviously you enjoy it, and who am I to keep you from getting off? When your bottom falls out, remember, you're always welcome to eat up at the house.
