I love ancient native American history and archeology.

I went to Chaco Canyon the other day, if you're into that kind of stuff it's pretty cool.

We made the mistake of taking remote dirt roads south from there, in the middle of a sandstorm. I started looking for the truck from Wolf Creek.

Some of those ancient sites are just mind boggling. I personally loved Chaco. From the Fajada Butte to Pueblo Bonito, it's just amazing what was done so long ago.

I liked how they built all their roads straight. They'd come to a bluff and or hole and build a ramp or stairs instead of going around.

I wanted to go over to Meteor Crater, Flagstaff, etc., but we hit some bad sandstorms coming out of Chaco and my fiance freaked. I even missed the Bandera Crater and Ice Caves because of it.

"The images above, shows two false color composites of TIMS data. The Chacoan roads are the linear features fanning out from the lower right hand corner. The yellow lines are current day roadways. The current roads follow topography, and the path of least resistance in construction. Conversely, the prehistoric roads are strikingly linear"(http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/archeology/chaco_compare.html) (http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/archeology/chaco_compare.html)

If you have Google Earth you can zoom right onto Pueblo Bonito. Very neat.

The scale of the construction of those places is incredible given the technonogies they had to work with at the time. I probably enjoy the petroglyphs more than anything else, though.
