SMU easy. Your question should read more like "SMU or Rice?"

welp, I live in FW and was thinking of moving to the Dallas area as I work in Dallas so driving to Houston a few nights a week isn't that feasable.

I thought you hated the executive offices?

SMU. The connections you make there are worth the tutition.

SMOO is the better-regarded program.

One of these days I'll get tired of the project trailer. Just planning ahead.

They have one here in Tulsa, it's a little closer.

Neither of those schools have basketball programs that are likely to get you to the NBA.

Q1. when you move from job to job right now do they ever comment on what school you got your degree from?

No. But as was mentioned above, it's all about the connections with the MBA. Whichever school has the more powerful alumni base in the area in which you want to live is the one to pick. Other things to consider include: how many and what quality of companies recruit on campus? Which school provides the most sponsored networking events? If you have a target company, where did its executives go to school?

hmm, maybe its just my field, but monster is all the networking you'll ever need. when deciding on an MBA, the major thing to consider is payback. if the company pays 100%, you go with the most expensive education you can get. if your paying for it yourself you have to make the decision i made almost 10 years ago.

yale -> $125,000 + moving to the northeast
pokie state -> free + staying in tulsa

the payback numbers just didn't make sense and don't to this day.

Well, yeah, if you're comparing two schools as disparate as those then you need to look at a lot more than what I mentioned. But we're talking about two private schools (that I assume are at least comparable in tuition) both in the same area.

SMU is far and away the best choice. Connections are solid, but you're going to pay through the wazoo for it.

Its a given. TCU has the hotter chicks. Everyone knows this. Playboy has called them on it countless times. :)

Photo evidence, please?

My father drove from Houston to SMU just about every weekend for two years for his MBA. He considered it to be that good.

(and note that driving to TCU was obviously also an option -- and he didn't.)

Just get an MBA. All that really matters is appearance. What one actually knows, or can actually do is not important.

So cynical. And so true.

And that's assuming you can get into SMU - not easy if you don't have the grades and the GRE score.

I kinda think MBA=Overrated. If your certain you'll get a better job while spending 2 years and 50,000 on it, go for it.

for business school one takes the GMAT.

SMU is a good but not great school....and costs like a great one. my sister works there and says it's kind of a joke. I'm sure SMU would get you hobnobbing around Dallas...which is a plus....but that's serious coin.

if it were me, i'd be looking at UT (spit) or ATM once you establish residency. probably cost half as much.

if you are gonna spend the money, take a GMAT class--Princeton Review, preferably. I used to teach SAT classes for PR and you had morons improve theri SAT scores by 200-300 points.

1TC - here is a link that the part time programs here in Texas. If you are focused on staying in the metroplex, two more you should consider are UT-Dallas and UT-Arlington. North Texas also has a program. I have some pretty strong opinions about programs but won't post them. You can PM me if you want my advice.

And while my school is generally ranked #2 or #3 in the country, I feel that it is the best b-school in the US. :D But I quit my job, moved the wife, went full time, paid $50K in tuition and another $5K in books and stuff (eight years ago). But I have made that back many times over.

MBAs are good for 2 things -> consulting and obscuring your undergraduate degree. i got mine for the latter and ended up doing the former. every interview i'm on i get a "oh, you have an MBA!!!!" why yes, i'm not just another pretty face.
