Since the other thread turned very "SO", I made a new one to just talk about what happened.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in serious but stable condition and in surgery this afternoon following a serious head injury this morning after his motorcycle collided with a car on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge, police said. Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said. 2:56 pm

Not. Good.

Which means Steelers fans are about to be really ****ed that the initial reports said "not life-threatening". ;)

Anyway, it sounds like he'll survive, but no telling how long it will take him to recover.

Steeler fans just want to know if it's "career" threatening. ;)

Sad..because Cowher warned him about not wearing a helmet last year, after the Winslow debacle.

Well, he can kiss his contract goodbye, unless the Steelers left out the usual boilerplate. Seriously, was he trying to be more like Kellen Winslow?

It was a bengels fan who was driving the car that ran the light. The fan decided that if the team wasn't going to get back for the hit on Palmer, he would take matters into his own hands.

The Steelers already saw to it that Carson Palmer "severely injured" a knee last year.

Sounds like the helmet would have at least spared the laceration to the back of the head. Might not have done much for the face, grill and knees though.

Whoever was driving that car needs to get a hold of that boner that cost the Cubs that playoff game vs the Marlins and figure out how to enter the Dumbass Sports Fan Protection Program.

"You Can't Blame Steve Bartman"
In April 2005, ESPN2 launched the series The Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame... by examining the top five reasons why Bartman should not be blamed for the Cubs' playoff collapse. Reruns of the episode have since been aired on ESPN Classic, which now televises the show.

ESPN's case for exonerating Bartman was as follows:

5. Moisés Alou. If he would've kept his cool and simply treated the foul ball as a missed opportunity, the rest of the Cubs might not have lost their composure, either.
4. Dusty Baker. The Cub manager should have calmed everybody down, but he never even left the dugout for a mound conference.
3. Alex Gonzalez. Without his error, the Cubs would have been out of the inning with just one run allowed (on an Ivan Rodriguez single).
2. There was still a Game 7, and the Cubs were leading that game as late as the top of the fifth inning. They had their chances to make Bartman a footnote in team history, rather than a municipal "anti-icon". They lost Game 7.
1. The Marlins were the better team. They won more games in the 2003 season than the Cubs did, had a higher batting average, higher slugging average, more hits, more runs, more RBI, and more stolen bases. In addition, after clinching the pennant they beat the New York Yankees in the World Series.

Outside of him being a human being and I hate to see humans hurt. Do we really care?

Succs for him, but it doesn't bother me unless his wreckless act causes my car insurance to go up...

Just move to Texas where you don't have to have any.

Just move to Texas where you don't have to have any.

Since I am in fully insured and licensed in Texas and he is in PA, don't think it will hurt me.

So I don't care...(and by that, I mean I hope he heals up right fast and has no lasting injuries and all, but in the scheme of things, there are things much more pressing.)

I think Penguin got this one right. His career in foosball is probably over.

Maybe its the jet jock "need for speed"...

However, I think the "need" for paycheck would overcome the need for speed... ;)

I'd be like many of them, driving around in a Hummer...

The immediate concern is going to be the eye socket fx - infection and pressure on the brain.
And the knees are a biggie..... I wonderful if it is fx kneecaps or ligaments & tendons.

Sad. Hope for the best.

My cousin had a horrible motorcycle wreck when she was 16. Broke her hip and leg. The postive was that they discovered she had a pelvic tumor - removed it and she has been fine (35 years). The only good story to come out a motorcycle wreck.
