go to one of those doc-in-the-box joints if your doc cant see you. they take walk-ins. just bring a book with you.

or hell, go plop your *** down in your doctor's waiting room and tell them you're really sick and you need to see the doc and they need to work you in. usually they'll do that if you're nice about it.

Well, my real doc no longer has a home or office, both blown away.

I saw the doc in a box Saturday, but there's more going on here than strep.

I'm in Crestview, FL... about 90 minutes east of Mobile.

We use Kenalog instead of Celestone... but they are both triamcinolone, so it's really 6 one way, 1/2 dozen the other.

Better than saltwater: gargle with apple cider vinegar. or make a syrup out of apple cider vinegar and honey.

ASV is teh miracle drug for sore throats.

Sure, y'all know all the other stuff in my life. :D

Saturday, it was moderate to severe pain to swallow
Today - it's all severe, never been this bad in my entire life

Saturday, only modest draininge, and generally clear
Today, heavy draininge, and multi colored (green, yellow, brown)

Saturday, no ear troubles
Today, my ears ache and they also hurt when I swallow

Saturday, low fever, maybe 99.5
Today - 101.3

Saturday - no coughing
Today coughing with a minor rattle

etouffee
6/12/2006, 12:43 PM
dude, if a doc won't see you go to the emergency room. you need to knock that out before it gets worse, especially with small kids in the house.

House call? Meet me half way? I'M DYING HERE!@#!

I just got in with a nurse practitioner, thank god. If I don't get the
STEROIDS, I'm screwed.

Allegra, Calratin, and Clarinex all have done nothing to stop the draininge.
It's so bad at night, I can't sleep.

I get it at least twice a year. it does suck.

I go to the Norman Urgent Care walkin and get some meds. They just built a new one on W36 & Rock Creek. it's really nice and hasn't been very crowded the last few times I"ve been in. Open 8 to 8 everyday.

There is also one on 24th just south of Robinson, but I've always had a longer wait there.

When you saw the doc in a box on Saturday they did a throat culture? And it was positive?

The reason I ask is this: usually with true strep throat you have sore throat fever, malaise, and possible a swolen lymph node or two... but no other respiratory symptoms (cough, sneezing, post nasal drainage, etc).

Additionally, what did the doctor give you for your throat Saturday when you saw him?

Saline.... use lots of it. It will thin the mucous so that it is not as abrasive to your pharynx, and it also helps draw swelling out of your mucous membranes.

Heck, if you're in Gulfport, you just need to go dunk your head in the surf a few times.

A Z-pack and claritin once a day for 10 days.

The strep culture was positive.

You bring up a point, the glands in my neck, just under my jaw, are rather
sore too.

A Z-pack

there's your first problem. I HATE those damn things.

I always tell them "NO Z PACK" before they even start the examination.

A really stout ammoxicillin always does the trick for me.

Yeah, I think Augumentin 1000XR would be a better choice.

yup, augumentin. that's what they give me. I just couldn't think of the name.

works. every. time.

along with a really powerful cough syrup (Hittusinex or something like that)

The only thing that works for me.

Finsih your antibiotics. Request a steroid shot or a steroid taper pack, and a combo-cough syrup with an older antihistamine and hydrocodone in it (like Histex HC or Tussionex.) The older antihistamines, though more sedating, tend to work better for the true allergy symptoms than the newer ones. The hydocodone portion will just plain make the pain of the strep throat go away.

Seriously though, make up a boat load of salt water and gargle it and sniff it..... all day long.

Salt water gargling is great. Or soup.

So is bourbon/honey/lemon juice. I loved that as a kid. Lots of honey, a touch of lemon to hide the bourbon and bourbon to thin it down.
