I was flipping through the channels and noticed that on SunSports (not sure if it is just a Florida channel or what) they are playing the 1981 Orlange Bowl. Since I wasn't born until 1984, I never got a chance to watch it. Looked up the score and noticed that we won by 1 point. Is it worth watching, or should I show support for the baseball team tonight instead? Thanks guys

aw hell yeah. that's a great game. one of the all-timers (not for a MNC).

show support for the baseballers and tape/TIVO the OB.

any chance to see the bone for young'uns is a valuable opportunity--and not to mention the Sooner Aerial Circus to win this one over Bobby B....for teh second of 3 times in the OB.

JC to Forest Valora.

If you miss it, it's also one of the few Sooner football games easily purchased on DVD.

I love the tradition we've had of playing Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Not just because we've won each time but I think it's kind of cool that in early January of 1981 we played and beat Florida State and then 20 years later on January 3rd,2001 we played and beat Florida State except that was for a National Title. So I think that's interesting.

I was watching also..... I was flipping thru the stations and saw it, and watched the whole second half. My girlfriend asked me why I would want to watch a game from 25 years ago. I told her that she asks too many stupid questions !

That was his 3rd Sooner nighmare actually. We also beat him 24-9 in '76, his first year at FSU.

we beat FSU 24-7 in the '80 OB and again in the '81 OB.

edit: FSU was also undefeated in the 79/80-OB season.

JC won back-to-back Orange Bowl MVPs against Bobby and the Noles.

The '80 OB was the game when Billy Simms scored his last touchdown on a long stretched-out pitch along the right sideline in the 4th as icing on the cake.

That Rice game was painful to watch.

From the stands, the officiating in that Rice game seemed terrible. Early on it seemed the owl pitchers had a much bigger strike zone. In later innings it seemed more random and that strike were just called arbitarily for both teams.

Was that just from our vantage near third base, or did it seem that way on tv too?

You can see that very play on the video I posted here earlier in the week. If you pause it when JC makes the pitch...he is 100% horizontal. And Billy high steps into the end zone. It's a great camera angle as well...

One (both?) of these OBs featured an all-time great matchup in the trenches between two future pro-wrestling greats: Ron Simmons vs. Steve Williams.
