Wonder why a barner would rush over here and make this his first post? Least Cal's down where they should be, so is notre dame. tOSU is too low. No Tx Tech is a little surprising. Arky #13!?

Well..other than to get a nice warm and fuzzy welcome like this one....

I figured you guys would like to see that your Sooners are his preseason Favorite.

...my preseason rankings are NOT my Power Ratings. As an example - Louisville is rated #14 in my Power Poll or overall talent rankings but due to a manageable schedule , I have them #3 overall...These rankings reflect not only talent, but the strength of schedule and how each team should finish the season

PS's Power Poll
1.OU
2.Texas
3.USC
4.Ohio St.
5.Notre Dame

Steele has historically been very good. I have not noticed any bias on his part. Phil does this for gamblers and has to be very objective to stay in business.
The only issue I had with him was last year when he made a prediction on the Houston radio that A&M would win the B12 South.
It may be that he was trying to be a homer on the Houston radio, but that is not normally his style.
He later admitted that he had laid a very large egg with that one.

Comapring his Power Rating and his Preseason rankings are interesting. Seems that the same team is at the top of both lists.

Even if he misses, this will get a lot of play nationally and lots of folks will be talking about OU being back on top.

Steele is usually pretty good....though i think around 5-6 is where we ought to be.

Auburn fan: KyleUT is a Texas fan. don't confuse him/it with us.....thanks for posting and post more often. most visitors do allright here once you get used to the sarcasm.....we've even got more than a few Tiders...;)

Ok...here's why his list is pathetic:

- Arkansas...13? Are you freaking kidding? Jim Bob Cooter had better be transferring there ASAP for them to be #13...and that'd be in pig wrestling.

-Meechigan...7? I've fallen for this one too many times. Start em low and make them PROVE IT!

-Tennessee??? Cutcliffe had better be God in order for them to survive this year.

And then there's Arizona State...right state, wrong Arizona team ranked...at least by the year's end!

No sweat. Even if it was a Sooner fan....I wouldn't be totally surprised considering the bad blood/triangle between OU, USC, and AU fans dealing with the 04 drama. Some of that is still lingering on all sides.

I was shocked by some of his predictions...but the guy is BY FAR the best prediction "expert" over the last decade, way better than Athlon, Lindy's, and TSN.

I'd be happy to see AU play the Sooners for all the marbles. It would probably pit the two best RBs in the nation against each other. Could be fun.

Cutcliffe doesn't have to be God for Tennessee to regain their contender status. They are still loaded to the gills with talent, and were one OC away from being a contender last year. Cutcliffe is one of the best QB coaches in the college game and a damn fine OC. UT will bounce back fine IMO.

I agree on Michigan...along with FSU...most overrated teams of the last half decade.

Seems like you can take about one of 8 teams or so.. and justify why they should be number one this year.

All have strengths, all have question marks.

Wanna bet the BCS gods clusterscrew someone this year?

They've got 2 tough opponents (Miami & WVU), & they get them both @ Louisville. If you notice on his power poll, he actually thinks the Cards are the 14th best team in the nation. He's just got them faring very well vs. a pretty manageable (to say the least) schedule.

I don't care if they go undefeated and give free pizzas away at halftime. it's still Louisville and they still finish way outta da top.

The only thing that irks me about his poll is...I ordered his magazine almost two months ago and still haven't received it yet.

Ditto. I think Phil has begun slipping the past 2-3 years. This year however, is a major drop. I honestly feel he is taking his biggest risk ever with some of these picks.

I really think West Virginia and Florida will be top-5 caliber this year. The injury bug would be their only downfall. USC is still loaded with talent, top to bottom. They'll just have to go out and prove it. I feel their defense will rise to the occasion this year. I think Ohio State, Texas and Georgia will all struggle following key graduation losses. I think Nebraska and Notre Dame are still overrated.

I'll reserve my thoughts on OU pending Bomar's development in the preseason practice sessions. :)

kinda ironic that his #1 and # 2 teams both had players get in trouble yesterday, albeit ours was much more of an impact than auburn's was.
