I think a sleeper hold, choke hold or something similar would have been in order until reinforcements arrived, if needed. If all else fails, go for the double-fishhook move.

I can't believe he just walked away. I would have gone psycho on that bastard.

EDIT: Oh, and whatever you do, don't try and break the bottle like in the movies. All you'll end up with is a shattered bottle and a hand that's cut to pieces.
